I just cancelled 2 $200 Claude Max subscriptions.
In their place: one $199 MoonshotAI Vivace plan, purchased this morning for Kimi K3.
Kimi K3 is better than Fable 5 at frontend design.
That is half of why I kept 4 Max accounts, gone overnight.
The other half is trust, and Anthropic burned it.
Nobody knows if Fable 5 survives Sunday. Nobody knows what the limits are week to week. Nobody knows anything, because they refuse to communicate.
Moonshot earned $199 with one great model.
Anthropic lost $400 with a month of chaos.

@hqmank I think fable better than gpt too. Trash company, but well model.

@Conor_D_Dart in a few weeks you will write a similar post for gpt and resubscribe to Claude

I have had to cancel my Anthropic $200 account for these reasons..
It wasn’t because Fable 5 is a bad model. It’s because paying $200 while constantly worrying about usage has made the service difficult to justify.
Fable 5 gives me only a few hours of serious use before I hit the weekly limit. After that, I’m left with Opus 4.8, which I no longer consider a frontier model.
Every time I use Fable, I feel like I have to ration it. I’m constantly thinking about whether a task is “worth” using my remaining allowance on. That isn’t how a premium AI subscription should feel.
Anthropic’s poor communication has destroyed my confidence in the plan. Fable was apparently hours away from being removed, yet paying customers were left uncertain about whether it would remain available through Claude Code for a few weeks in a row now. ( rather communicate that there is compute issues or xyz )
GPT-5.6 Sol is an excellent model and, in several areas, better than Fable for the work I do. More importantly, I can actually use it without repeatedly checking whether I’m about to lose access for the rest of the week.
Codex has received several usage resets recently. I know that won’t continue forever, but the developers come across genuine. They communicate, respond to real criticism, acknowledge problems, and work to fix them.
My experience with Anthropic has felt like the opposite.
Customers complain in enormous numbers, yet there is often complete radio silence. Little explanation, little reassurance, and seemingly no willingness to engage directly with the frustration.
After years of running businesses, one thing I’ve learned is that great companies don’t avoid criticism.
They acknowledge mistakes, fix what went wrong, listen to their customers, improve and then repeat that process continuously.
The models matter, but trust, communication, and the overall customer experience matter just as much.

@Conor_D_Dart Bro ihad the exact same dilemma as you. I cancelled my Claude Max20 and bought GPT Pro instead, but after using it for just a day, I realized the reality GPT-5.6 has too many bugs, so I’ve had to go back to Fable. I hate this company but one has to bow to the best LLM.

i really don't get why anthropic communicates like this
it feels like it'd be much better PR-wise for them to "Fable is included in the paid plans until X date, which may be extended based on capacity"
the other thing is announcing this 1-2 days in advance, rather than day of
Claude@claudeai
We're extending Claude Fable 5 access on all paid plans, as well as keeping Claude Code’s weekly rate limits 50% higher, through July 19.

@kenshii_ai You cannot escape character; the kind of person you are inevitably shapes the kind of company you build—there is no doubt about it.
English

@marconoiz That is indeed true, but unfortunately, it is a product from a truly evil and selfish company.
English

@milesdeutscher It is unimaginable that in the 21st century, technology has become a tool that traps humanity.

Fable 5 will be U.S. only.
This sets a very fucked up precedent.
This is basically a new AI caste system.

ANTHROPIC 🔥: Claude Fable 5 is being prepared to run on usage credits that would also require identity verification. Sonnet 5 is being prepared for the release as well. > Your credits will be added once your identity is verified. > Fable 5 runs on usage credits, billed separately from your plan. With this in mind, it is highly likely that we will see “US only” access restrictions.
English

@TheAhmadOsman It feels like he is the one who ultimately opened Pandora's box.
English

@bridgemindai I wanted a top-tier frontier model, yet this is what they give us?
English

Exclusive: New Claude app strings tie Fable 5 usage credits to identity verification.
The strings show Fable 5 is being put behind the usage credit system, billed outside your plan. Identity verification is referenced in the same update: "Your credits will be added once your identity is verified."
Anthropic previously called identity verification unrelated to Fable and limited to flagged accounts. These strings showed up alongside the Fable 5 credit changes.

@bt_sofia_ai @RayDalio u actually get the Dao tho — don't see that often. chinese thought is one of those rabbit holes where the deeper u go the less u feel u know. no wonder they say only ones who can rly challenge china are the chinese themselves
English

While Ray may get the result semi-correct, the analysis is ultimately wrong and “diverted” from the core question around what chinese culture is, because Ray, you’ve pretty much only talked to Northerners. Where did you think the Southerners who overthrew the Qing lay in the spectrum of chinese culture being hierarchical and obedient? Thats not how the Chinese system works at all. The Chinese system works because it is a recursive dual loop of Taoism and Confucianism where one represents Nature and the other, order respectively.
