One of the weird things about newsletter traffic is you often gain more net subscribers on the day *after* you post something, because the 1st day it mostly hits your email list (usually with a few unsubscribes) and the 2nd day it's more likely to circulate to new readers.

Layoffs and cancelled podcasts absolutely everywhere in public media. In each shop you have employees arguing that it was the specific poor choices of their management that led to this, or exacerbated it. It's obviously a more global development than that. However I think public media collectively make some bad choices or assumptions about what their audience wanted that led them down this road. No programming decisions would have saved all the jobs but niche programs not designed to appeal to mass audiences were a luxury that NPR and the stations didn't realize they couldn't afford.
