Never heard of the @USDToreros before, but after flying with their football team, I'm actively rooting against them forever.

@eduleadership They aren’t helpful or necessary for me, but were probably really helpful to others. But the grading structure currently paints effort and mastery with the same brush.
I would much rather see assessments as the base for grading, and assignments can serve as supplements.

@erics_content You’re probably right. This is an alignment problem, if the assignments are not actually helpful or necessary.

I hate this.
In school I aced every test and didn’t do any of my homework. The more this happened, the more it proved that assignments weren’t necessary or even helpful.
I understand it’s helpful for students who struggle, but for me, it was just busy work.

The obvious answer is that it’s valuable to do assignments in order to learn, and it’s necessary to have some form of accountability for these assignments. Grades tell us about something useful that assessments don’t: effort. And parents overwhelmingly want this information.
