@GwenneFarrell @stevemagness That's awesome you're still getting after it. I just finished a 30k this fall and the fellow not to bar behind me was 68. He passed many people half his age. It was super inspiring

@stevemagness Sorry my friend but at 60 yo I just run, end of story. I’m slow but determined and proud as hell when I finish a 10k. Tuesday tomorrow so doing a 5k. Check in when you are my age and still workout 3 hours a day.

In running we practice running fastest at end of workout. When we know we're almost done and challenge is low. Practice running fast in the middle of the workout without knowing how you are going to come back from it. Then figure it out...

The point of stepping into the arena isn't to win. The win is just the by-product. Competition is a craft. It's not a conquest.

@stevemagness Well for me an easy run could easily be 75-90 mins. HIIT is like 12-15 min warm up, 20 min session and 10 min cool down. What am I doing wrong?

We often hear that high intensity training is a time saver. But it’s not if done right. When you include a proper warm up and cool down, hard workouts take longer than your normal easy run that requires no warm up or cold.

One great thing about running track in the US…it teaches you how to go between miles and meters seamlessly. And sometimes you use both in the same sentence, which really confuses people…

@stevemagness 💯 I used to freak out every time I got injured and had to take time away. Like racing thoughts of I'm never going to be that good again I should just give up. But then magically it only ever took me half a season or so to rebuild depending on the level of injury.

A new study shows why it's far easier to maintain or rebuild fitness, than it is to build it in the first place. Your cells retain an "epigenetic memory" of training. Even after a long layoff, they are primed to adapt at a cellular level. It's as if your body remembers, "I've been here before." It's "old man strength" in action...

On behalf of the Department of War, we extend our deepest gratitude to Admiral Alvin Holsey for his more than 37 years of distinguished service to our nation as he plans to retire at year's end. A native of Fort Valley, Georgia, Admiral Holsey has exemplified the highest standards of naval leadership since his commissioning through the NROTC program at Morehouse College in 1988. Throughout his career—from commanding helicopter squadrons to leading Carrier Strike Group One and standing up the International Maritime Security Construct—Admiral Holsey has demonstrated unwavering commitment to mission, people, and nation. His tenure as Military Deputy Commander and now Commander of United States Southern Command reflects a legacy of operational excellence and strategic vision. The Department thanks Admiral Holsey for his decades of service to our country, and we wish him and his family continued success and fulfillment in the years ahead.
