@CarpyNick If you're talking about Darien / Panama England personally bribed nobles who are well dead; it didn't give a penny to Scotland.

I am extremely disappointed that my university, @univofstandrews - which I have been a financial donor to for decades as well as a graduate of - has formally honoured and celebrated, via the awarding of an honorary doctorate, an individual who promotes these extreme views.

@alexmassie Having seen some of figures before, the allocation of what is Scottish (or some geographical elements elsewhere) are debatable and clearly wouldn't apply to Scotland outside a UK fiscal union.

The solipsism of nationalism: thinking that fiscal transfers somehow don’t exist in other countries! (The unusual thing about the UK is that Scotland is a rich part of the country funded as though it were a poor one.)
Maria João Kay@joao_kay

To paraphrase: “These lovely people in London generate all this wealth and we, too wee, too poor Scots, benefit from this largesse enormously because…they like us so much. That’s it. It’s never happened anywhere ever in the history of mankind but it happens here”. Disturbing 👇🏻

@PeteWishart Federalism simply doesn't fit with English principle of Parliamentary Sovereignty. Devolution is a convenient fudge as it can be seen as a Parish Council to some and quasi-Federalism to others whilst retaining power in Westminster.

The logical conclusion to the new debate about devolution is to move the UK towards federalism with equal powers amongst the UK nations. It could break the constitutional deadlock without compromising deeply held positions. It is a way forward for all. thenational.scot/politics/26274…

@msm_monitor It's really strange - virtually every country that has left Westminster rule was 'fiscally dependent' on the Imperial @UKParliament yet none have wanted it back 🤔

@trapdoorcat One of very few Brexit benefits is out of the CFP. If no Scottish vessel wishes to catch them then prohibit their catch in Scottish waters. Fish don't actually have to be caught.

The excuse being made for tuna fishing licences in Scottish seas not being given to Scottish companies is that only two from Scotland applied. If that is the case then these two should have been given priority. These are, after all, Scottish seas. Who made the decisions, and why?

So much from the English media and press about drill baby drill. Its not even their country they want to drill in, its Scotland's and we dont want to drill.. Time we told other countries to manage their own. #independence

not to be controversial but attached water bottle lids aren’t the worst woke decision made. the worst one is that dips and hummus don’t have plastic lids on them anymore. what do you mean i can’t reseal them now without having to use clingfilm

Dear Alan please remember that there are a lot of Scots who dont want independence. This is the first time I have heard this excuse for not supporting England in the world cup
Alan Shanks@AlanShanks4

Dear English people who can't understand why the Scots don't support you in the World Cup. From a Scottish point of view, the English are holding Scotland prisoner in the UK, by not respecting democracy and agreeing to a referendum on Scottish independence.

That's why we have a plan for a bold new deal with Europe to boost growth, create jobs and keep our country safe. That means joining the single market, forming a new UK-EU customs union and a defence pact.

Just tried boarding a flight to Spain. My passport runs out June 2027. Was refused boarding because apparently it ran out in 2026 according to new European rules😳🫤Can anyone explain this to me? I’m now stuck @Ryanair @ukhomeoffice - check your passports people. Who knew .

@CraigMurrayOrg Definitely not an issue to solve over the phone; always deal in writing with the bank specifying the suspected transactions. Also, open a backup account ASAP elsewhere if you don't already have one.

@Macnessie The UK Supreme Court never said anything about the SNP. It was in relation to the devolved powers of Holyrood with the Westminster system.

So if reform have offered to pay for the Clacton by-election. Would it be possible to raise the money to hold a referendum in Scotland? The supreme court ruled the SNP couldn't hold a referendum, it doesn't stop the sovereign people of Scotland holding one, does it?

@alexmassie Group childcare is obviously cheaper than paying benefits for one to one care. It also removes a barrier to work for most parents (except perhaps for those with special needs)

It’s almost as though there is some crazy competition to see which cabinet minister can most completely prove Pat McFadden right. (At present childcare subsidies are only available to those in work. McFadden noted that all his meetings are about who to tax to fund benefits.)
