At this point the one thing I’m not using AI for is writing. I don’t use it to draft or brainstorm or even revise, really. I do use it to copy edit. I have a prompt to generate bullet point edits that I can judge individually, because a revised draft can’t be trusted.

@JasJohalBC @SarcasticallyAJ Vancouverites should be the absolute last ones talking about “dressing up”. Absolute rubes. Hicks. Bums. Zero class here. Dressing up in Vancouver is getting on laundered hoodie and ball cap to go to Gotham or Glowbal

We tested every Commonwealth Short Story Prize winner since 2012. We found three more AI-generated stories -- two among the 2026 winners, as well as the 2025 overall winner.

Today, we share a breakthrough on the planar unit distance problem, a famous open question first posed by Paul Erdős in 1946. For nearly 80 years, mathematicians believed the best possible solutions looked roughly like square grids. An OpenAI model has now disproved that belief, discovering an entirely new family of constructions that performs better. This marks the first time AI has autonomously solved a prominent open problem central to a field of mathematics.
