This is a silly take. It's pretty clear that Tlaib's criticisms of the United States are grounded in a belief that we don't live up to the ideals we profess. She doesn't hate America, she hates the ways we fail to be what we say we are, just as millions before her have.

I love the saying that some people are "born American, but in the wrong place," and the vision of America as united not by ethnicity, but by a shared commitment to a national ideal. That is why it is extremely hard for me to see Rashida Tlaib as an American.

I noticed that I never see teens driving with their friends anymore. I used too all the time in the late 2000's. I figured it was social. Covid repercussions maybe causing the phenomenon. But it's literally against the law for highschool buddies to cruise around? Sad
