GOOD NEWS: Last night, around 1AM, bandits attacked Rafin Gora, a Fulani settlement in Tandama Ward, Dandume LGA, Katsina State. The raid left one resident injured and resulted in the theft of hundreds of cattle. Community members, working alongside local vigilantes and Katsina Community Watch Committee (CWC) in Dandume, pursued the attackers and successfully recovered 100 stolen cattle. The attack comes despite a peace agreement between LGA stakeholders and bandits ahead of Ramadan, showing ongoing insecurity in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, no trace of the councillor had been found. Search operations are ongoing by the security agencies with efforts being intensified to secure his safe return and identify those responsible for the abduction. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could aid the rescue efforts.

Joint troops repel bandit attack in Katsina, neutralise two and recover motorcycle By: Zagazola Makama Joint troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have repelled an armed bandit attack in Gida Soda Village, Katsina State, neutralising two attackers and recovering a motorcycle, security sources said. The incident reportedly occurred at about 12:45 a.m. on Feb. 17 when suspected bandits stormed the village. Troops, acting promptly in coordination with local police and Civil Watch Patrol Teams, engaged the attackers in an intense gunfight, forcing the criminals to flee. During the operation, two of the bandits were neutralised, and a Boxer-brand motorcycle belonging to the group was recovered. Tragically, one resident, Hassana Muhammad, 30, was reportedly fatally shot during the attack. She was rushed to Dansoda Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Sources said efforts to track fleeing bandits and secure the area are ongoing.

According to sources, the attack occurred in the early hours of Feb. 17 when gunmen invaded the western part of Magazu Village, shooting and injuring Aliyu Musa. His neighbour, Ibrahim Haruna, who reportedly came to assist, was shot dead. In a separate raid later in the same area, gunmen stormed Fadama, abducting three persons, including Abdulhakim Salmanu, 46, and two others whose identities are yet to be confirmed. Two suspected kidnappers killed, rifle recovered in Akwa Ibom operation By: Zagazola Makama Two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and a firearm recovered during a security operation along waterways in Akwa Ibom State. Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 11:10 p.m. on Feb. 16 following intelligence on the activities of a militant group known as the “Blin Blin Marine Strike Force,” allegedly operating along the Uruan waterways and Itu waterfronts. The sources said a tactical team conducting a clearance operation at Ikot Ika waterfront encountered the suspects in a gun duel. During the exchange, one officer sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Two members of the group were neutralised during the encounter, while others reportedly escaped through the waterways with gunshot wounds. Items recovered from the suspects included a G3 assault rifle and four rounds of live ammunition. Preliminary findings indicated that the group was allegedly led by Ubong Effiong Archibong, also known as “Condiment,” who was on a wanted list over alleged involvement in several kidnapping and violent crime incidents within the state. Sources added that operations were ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang and dismantle the remaining network.
