Sounds like Kinsale is becoming the Barcelona/Venice of Ireland. And not in a good way. People literally turned around and left on arrival, it was so mobbed yesterday. Top Tip: Schull is nicer. Clon is pretty decent too. And we have a new BYD garage in Old Chapel 😉

@eternalpainter @dublin_damo @ailbeoreilly 11 years in a row on our summer holidays in Barley Cove in the 70s/80s so I love it down around there. Not a huge amount to do around Goleen but it is gorgeous. Barley Cove beach is mayhem on nice summer weekends tho. Allihies on the Beara even more remote. Love it!

@eternalpainter @conoro @ailbeoreilly Not been to Goleen. I generally avoid the tourist hotspots these days, Waterford, Wexford and parts of Wicklow are the sweet spot!

@conoro @ailbeoreilly I really don't like Kinsale. Aside from the crowds, it's twee, a bit naff. Clon is miles better.

James Mitchell, professor of public policy at the University of Edinburgh, has described Holyrood as a “middle-class parliament for a middle-class electorate”. “The policies that have been pursued have been much more for the interests of the middle-class, but always articulated as if they are progressive, and I think the term ‘progressive’ has lost its meeting in Scottish political parlance because of that,” he said.

@BlackIslePMD I am not sure if this sets any legal precedent, however , the message it sends to teenage boys is abhorrent . The poor girl , absolutely failed.

As a society, we are continually pushing forward with the *rights* of a child, giving them more control, more say, decreasing voting age and treating them like mini adults, when it's in their favour. When it comes to responsibility tho... This. No words. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

I have really had enough of women being told to feel bad about having anything of our own while men's stuff just carries on being men's stuff without the slightest apology or attempt to make male-only environments safer or more inclusive

@joannaccherry @sabele26 @VictoriaPeckham Yesterday a prominent SNP activist (let’s call her Mhairi) pondered how it all came to this. I was going to reply ‘Janice Turner explained it in a column a while ago where she wrote, roughly, ‘there was an uneasy but working understanding than TRAs took the piss’. That’s how.

“Women never sought this divisive battle: until a decade ago we turned a blind eye to the few fully transitioned trans women who used our loos. Then activists pushed self-ID, threatened our safety and spaces, until women pushed back.” 👏@VictoriaPeckham thetimes.com/article/5f1219…

There is a dearth of good independent restaurants in Ayrshire, but this is a wee gem, delicious pasta and fantastic service .

Just bought a coffee from this place in Ayr near the bus station. Run by two charming Malaysian heritage women. Coffee was 👌. Recommend.
