The fact the owners proposal includes a salary floor suggests to me they are gonna go very hard after the salary cap. The players are at risk of losing the PR battle here if the owners say yes to a floor and then the players say no to a cap (right or wrong).

BREAKING: As expected, MLB proposed a hard salary cap to union officials today as part of the next CBA, sources tell ESPN. The salary floor for teams beginning in 2027 would be set at $171.2 million which includes player benefits with the ceiling at $245.3 million.

INF Ha-Seong Kim sustained a hand injury while in Korea and underwent surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right middle finger. The procedure was performed by Dr. Gary Lourie today in Atlanta, and the expected recovery time is 4-5 months.

@ethan_pope the only comparable time period i can think of off the top of my head is the first part of 2021. 199 wRC+ and 1.9 fWAR thru his first 23 games. i’ll look thru game logs and find other ridiculous 23 game stretches too (4/9/23 to 5/4/23 was 197 wRC+ and 1.6 fWAR)

JJ being even 80% of Darnold would’ve put MIN at 10-12 wins
Penix would have to be an upgrade on what Kirk gave down the stretch for us to have gotten to 10 wins (with an easier schedule). Vikes are simply giving JJ more cushion

JJ is also working with KOC and Jefferson, it’s fair to say he has a good leg up in terms of being good.
And it’s also fair to hold Penix to tempered expectations because his starts had flashes, but they also had rough patches.
But truth be told, we don’t really know

@ryan05foster They definitely have — it’s just a strange position to punt on, especially when you aren’t paying anyone above market rate, and when the last pitcher you acquired making more than $3 million is Chris Sale in 2023.

@ethan_pope i think the team has showed that they are comfortable with below average production at that position! thus arcia in 23-24 and a split in 25. not saying that’s right or wrong, just pointing out that they have decided to do that.

@ryan05foster Sure, but if your strategy is playing the margins, you need to be comfortable with below average production. And what’s the point of saving money from your C/1B/2B/3B/RF/CF team friendly deals if you are going to take a zero at a premium position? When you’re a WS contender?
