Kinda feel sad for Ivy dropouts who do startups for the sake of keeping up expectations but age out of the opportunity to go back to school and have legitimately excellent experiences

But the more irritating part of this post was the claim that what they are about to describe is not stupidity, followed by an inadvertently inaccurate description of stupidity.

@gro_tsen @laurentbercot For "aa", starting from 'a' there's only one useful next letter: you need a second 'a', else you're back to square one. For "az", from 'a' there are two useful next letters: 'z' wins immediately, 'a' gives a second chance to win on the next turn. So E[steps to win] is lower.

You see the “this proves Clavicular’s point” sentiment a lot; it’s because Clavicular’s point is the most obvious point ever made and the only reason it’s even considered a point being made is because the world’s been living in fantasy for the last decade
Tayoncé Defense Attorney@lesbeyonsay

this kinda proving clavicular's point that being attractive will get you anywhere... y'all don't know this guys opinions or political leanings but assume he's good bc he's attractive hskhkd😭

Incredible loss of value over the years due to the humanities/math split. Lots of important work siloed away to math people that other generations would have had their smartest (humanities) working on. Math people have no interest in this work and are interested only in games.

Chess is a really atypical profession. When we watch chess, we don't just care about the objective quality of the moves: we care about them having been decided by a human. By contrast, when we hire a doctor or an accountant we typically just care about the output.
Dr. Dominic Ng@DrDominicNg

Chess is 30 years ahead of every other profession in dealing with AI. The best case study we have for what's coming. 4 lessons: 1. Human-AI collaboration had a 15-year shelf life in chess. "Human in the loop" is a phase.

@faustianwigger No, it’s because of his status. And we’ve already seen that many times.

@cremieuxrecueil Add in some noise. If there are a bunch of people in the high 1500s, you're still probably not distinguishing them as well as you could.
