The 1685-1688 and 1789-1793 El Niño events were extremely severe and probably even stronger than the cataclysmic 1877 El Niño.
Recent El Niño like 1997 and 2016 and 2023 don't hold a candle to those monsters from 237 and 341 years ago.

@ryanweather What is your overall view of climate change? Got an article that shares your perspective?
English

Tom Steyer now leaning hard left into climate activism for California.
Steyer is becoming potentially the most dangerous neo-Malthusian in politics in 2026.

Except for Governors Brown and Newsom, no one has done more damage to California than Tom Steyer.
His brilliant plan: tax A.I. tokens to create a sovereign wealth fund to fight climate change. 😬

@euginewx don't look at the code, just talk to the agent and have it generate stuff, implementations, examples, docs
then do it again with different api you think will be better
English

For low level dependencies I like this:
1. Explore - vibe up APIs, use them, re-vibe them
2. Refine - Agent written, human directed
3. Finalize - human written, agent assisted
Not faster, but you ship a v1 that's much more like a v10

Dabbled over the weekend writing code like an ancient developer from 2023 without any AI at all and it was both sad and happy to see how much better my code was in every way.

@ryanweather You should do your own Atlantic Hurricane Season prediction :)

@pmddomingos you just throw tweets out there (that seems smart lol. you a boss). at least one gonna be right 🤣
English

@haider1 what is the minimum specs needed to self host current models? entry level
English

@svpino who ships products without knowing what a database is? seems like an exaggeration. i need proof.
English

I have 1000 ideas I've never built because I always get stuck thinking about how to build them right.
Meanwhile, every week I watch people who don't know what a database is ship working products.
This is eye-opening.
Sometimes, code quality, principles, theoretical concepts, and all of that matter. Sometimes, it just gets in the way.
English

@haider1 man, i follow you for AI news, but can we stop with the AGI exaggeration. every damn day lol...
English

we are already at what people would have called AGI 20 years ago
AI is already smarter than most people in many areas and has a wider range of skills than most humans
it's like the old fusion joke: "always a few years away"
but now we actually have working fusion prototypes -- even if they only work briefly, that still proves the concept

wait a second...
the anthropic code is very likely not used in the training data (closed source nature).
therefore... AI powered clean room engineering is totally legit here (not legal advice)
ThePrimeagen@ThePrimeagen
don't forget last time Anthropic, in their infinite PhD level wisdom, leaked their own source code (Feb 25) they DMCA'd all repos that had their code. Careful storing the code because Anthropic will have no mercy!
English

@pmddomingos I understand using AI to increase productivity, help at work, knowledge etc, but to be the best experiences I ever had were random, not programmed. I'll keep AI out of "recording" my life.
English

@Yuchenj_UW tbh, I can't wait to be a full time small farmer. raising kids on a farm is one of the best experiences ever.
English

Great article.
We aren’t really afraid of AI taking our jobs. We’re afraid of losing the meaning of life.
Honestly, I don’t want infinite money if all I can do for the rest of my life is be a farmer. Man is made to create.
I agree with the post-AI skill stack:
1) Agency – The meta skill that creates a story worth telling
2) Taste – The skill of discernment
3) Perspective – Increasing your human capacity
4) Persuasion – The ability to get people to care
5) Technical Know-How – Utilizing AI and tools
