@euglycemic

Keto diet (2014), intermittent carnivore diet. Radically changed my life; went to medical school to see why there is so much disinformation. Not medical advice.

I recorded a ton of info after going from keto to pure carnivore diet. Below is the case report for that experiment. I did great on meat (mostly beef), salt, and water. Rapidly lost a ton of weight despite not really being overweight. pubtexto.com/article_pdf/68…

@BiggestComeback 💯 And just because it seems like there are more lazy people than not, it doesn’t give doctors the excise to be lazy! Do your damned job and get people healthy!

At 51, when I weighed 278 pounds, if my doctor had advised me to take a GLP-1 to reverse my obesity, I almost certainly would have done it, assuming insurance covered it. I was ready for help. But if that same doctor had told me to buy Gary Taubes’ Why We Get Fat, read it carefully, and start applying the ideas to my own life, I almost certainly would have done that too. That’s the part we don’t talk about enough. A lot of people aren’t “noncompliant.” They’re not hopeless. They’re not lazy. They’re often responding rationally to the options presented to them by the people they trust. I’m grateful I eventually found the ideas that helped me take control of my health. But I do wonder how many people would choose a different path if a different path were clearly, confidently, and respectfully offered to them.

With the Hantavirus and COVID double pandemic on our hands and lockdowns (hopefully) coming soon, I wanted to take my granddaughter out for one last healthy, plant based treat. This place makes their ice cream from heart healthy canola!

@CBoy287 @DoctorTro @YounisJoseph @grok Personally, I recommend patients that ask for them to use them to get all the food-like products out of their houses, develop good habits, and forget about the addictive crap they have trouble with. No use figuring out if they’re gonna get a longterm adverse effect or not.

@DoctorTro @YounisJoseph @grok It’s a very complicated and diverse issue. GLP-1’s will probably be very useful to some people, but with many complex side effects. I’d sure take them before bariatric surgery.

Bariatric surgery should pretty much become extinct with the advent of GLP1s ++. The long term adverse outcomes of Bariatric surgery that they never tell you enough about is psychiatric

@PatsyDiabetes @Bobrossvictim @Gu77edpossum "You're" stands for "you are". "Your" is used otherwise. See? You lack basic grammatical ability and want us to listen to you? You lack basic intelligence; that's very obvious. What a joke.

Guess who was the only one on my cruise ship who didn’t get Hantavirus? They laughed at me when I boarded fully double-masked. “Covid is over!” First of all, no it isn’t.. we’re still in the middle of that pandemic. But more importantly, Hantavirus just proved why masks are not optional for anyone. Trust the science.. masks save lives.

@BenBikmanPhD @BasedMikeLee Humans as the reason for the planet? I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around that. We dominate the planet and it was “meant to happen” but the reason for?

@BenBikmanPhD @BasedMikeLee 💯 a coworker today said eating eggs is murder. She didn’t think abortion was for some logically incoherent reason, even after I explained that store bought eggs aren’t even fertilized and murder describes an action one human performs on another human.

Agreed. This is all part of an anti-human perspective. If you view humans as a plague on the planet, this is justified. If you views humans as the reason for the planet, it isn’t. Humans need meat and animal products to thrive. All life, of any kind, requires death. Too many want to pretend otherwise.

@euglycemic @BenBikmanPhD I'm not sure if this has been tested, but I would bet that anyone who lost, say, 100 lbs using GLP-1 alone (no exercise) would still have better strength to body weight ratio after the weight loss than before.

I’ve been cautious about GLP-1 medications. One of my primary concerns has been the loss of fat free mass (ie, muscle). But I was wrong. The paper published last week (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41850248/) showed that most of the “fat free mass” that’s lost not only isn’t from muscle, but it’s mostly from shrinking the liver. Ironically, likely partly due to a reduction in liver fat (which gets counted as fat free mass on DXA scans). In fact, muscle strength was completely normal and the muscle:fat ratio was significantly improved. There is still ample reason to be cautious, but the concerns about muscle loss appear to be overblown.

@MurseDarius @BenBikmanPhD You’re right. Focusing on quantity rather than quality has that effect. I think the concern was that the muscle might not fully return to its initial mass while the fat would. Maybe even moreso than seen in semi-starvation diets.

@euglycemic @BenBikmanPhD I don't think that's much of a concern at all. Assuming there is no lasting harm from the drug itself, then it's really no different than someone going on a diet, then falling off of it in a year. For some very sick people, these drugs might need to be for life.
