@aussie_ordinary @SenatorWong Hamas is even more evil than the IDF and will obviously not release hostages without a deal. Yet Netanyahu has refused to make a deal that would see all hostages released because it would be tough for him politically. Israel doesn't need to do brazen war crimes to defend itself.

Support for Israel’s campaign in Gaza would fall dramatically if Hamas immediately released the remaining hostages, including the bodies of the deceased hostages, but until then, this war will continue and the Palestinian people will continue to suffer. The ball is in Hamas’ court, not Israel’s. And to be honest, Israel has been far more fair in this war than most in the past. If this had happened only 100 years ago, there would already be nothing left of Gaza, and it would be part of Israel. Instead they’re giving advanced warning of military campaigns to try and minimise the impact of the war on civilians (which puts them at a disadvantage, given that it tells Hamas where they are going and what they’re doing too) and Israel also showed good faith of withdrawing a lot of their military forces when Hamas began releasing a fair few of the remaining hostages. And as for the aid, a large majority of it ends up being hoarded by Hamas as they use civilians as human shields at places like hospitals and schools. They don’t care about their own people, and this was a good way to show it. Is Israel completely innocent with some of their actions? Of course not, it’s a war zone, it’s a messy place, but ultimately the Palestinian people are suffering due to Hamas - they started it and refuse to do anything to end it.

Australia is part of the international call on Israel to allow the full and immediate resumption of aid into Gaza. Israel must enable UN and humanitarian organisations to do their life saving work. We urge all parties to return to a ceasefire and hostage deal.

Nearly 30 years ago, Congress had the courage to take on the tobacco industry, whose products killed more than 400,000 Americans every year. Banning fast-food advertising marketed to children, could cut the childhood obesity rate by up to 18%. Congress must act.

This is policy in the West Bank: shoot first, ask no questions later. The US cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the illegal actions of the extremist Israeli government. We cannot allow American citizens and innocent Palestinians to be killed with impunity. We must act.

Rampant antisemitism on the streets of Sydney. And thousands of people happily march alongside this, the Greens nod approvingly and how many more will see this image and smirk to themselves, hopeful the Jews are getting what’s coming to them.

The New York Times reports that there were no U.S. officials at the funeral of Aysenur Eygi, the U.S. citizen who was killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank last week. While it’s true that her funeral was a one-hour flight away from the nearest embassy or consulate, it would have sent a profound message if a U.S. official had attended. I say that while also acknowledging there are much more profound messages and actions, but these little things really matter to most people. Now, if her family asked that no U.S. officials be present, that is their right, but if they didn’t, this would have been such an easy thing to do.

This week: 19 people killed & scores injured in a strike in a “humanitarian zone” in Gaza. An American shot in the head in the West Bank. Now, another school bombed, killing 14 people, including 6 UN aid workers. Enough is enough. No more money for Netanyahu's war machine.

Kamala Harris made exactly the right remarks about Israel, Hamas, and Gaza, concluding with this strong statement: "Biden and I are working to end this war. Such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends -- and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination."

This is an excellent documentary. It follows a single cow. You watch her give birth to a calf, provide the milk we drink, you see her graze in the fields and socialize with other cows. And then when she shows signs of age and illness, you watch her human handlers, whom she trusts, shoot her in the head. I’m not a vegetarian, but I see the occasional discourse about it on here. I think if you don’t have some misgivings about killing nice animals and eating them you’re probably a little heartless. At the very least people should have better understanding of where their food comes from.

I don’t know what “most” means here but Keating certainly does not reflect the position of the Labor government or what this @AustralianLabor member (ie me) thinks about all this. Keating’s position is pro-authoritarian and this not progressive. No progressive should support it.

Extreme heat. Floods. Droughts. Wildfires. Rising sea levels. To tackle all these symptoms of the climate crisis, we need to fight the disease that causes them. It happens every single time: the message from peaceful & righteous protesters gets drowned out by wreckers, possible provocateurs and morons whose juvenile emotional release is more important to them than the cause itself. But make no mistake, among the protesters yesterday were freed Israeli hostages and family members of current hostages. Six of them were arrested yesterday for protesting Netanyahu's lie-riddled speech. Disgusting how they're being smeared.

Hamas charter goals are genocidal and their motto “from the river to the sea Palestine will be free” - is literally based on their genocidal charter. This is Hamas leaders and their civilian allies “day after” plans, that include evidence re their charter goals and their genocidal call “from the river to the sea…”⬇️ Their plan is called “Promise of the Hereafter" and they announced their plans at a conference held by Hamas in 2021, where they described their vision for Israel's destruction and their “day after” plans ⬇️ Read more here: memri.org/reports/hamas-…

We are disappointed to see the Labor and Liberal Parties team up with One Nation and others to attempt to curtail freedom of speech under the guise of unfounded accusations of antisemitism. By pretending this phrase means something completely at odds with what those using it explicitly say it means, both the Labor and Liberal party are defaming protestors and whipping up completely unnecessary fear and division Jews are not political footballs. We refuse to be used to achieve the racist aims of the motion to shut down Palestinian voices. In our interpretation, and as it’s explained by Palestinian people the world over, 'From the River to the Sea' is a call for freedom and equality for all people, Jewish and Palestinian.
