I need to publicly thank @MelWardP for her help and guidance on understanding the systemic impacts of COVID19. My advocacy on this pandemic on the House floor and moving forward has been shaped by her knowledge. For that, I am grateful.

FL Rep. Evan Jenne, D-Dania Beach, files bill (HB 6063) to repeal controversial 2018 law that has spawned battles over beach access. Repeal won't be easy, as original bill had wide GOP support. Background here: sun-sentinel.com/opinion/commen…

Let’s be honest about who knew what on climate change. @Chevron knew something bad was happening in the 70s and hid the data. That is the same behavior this state successfully sued tobacco companies over. There are major lawsuits going on as we speak. Sue ‘em. #AskFLLeg

Given costs places like Hollywood are seeing 4 climate change impacts like flooding, should the fossil fuel industries - who lied for decades about the harm their products caused - bear some responsibility to help pay or should taxpayers foot the bill? #askflleg #climatecosts

They haven’t had the same impact due to judicial intervention. A bill was passed to ban locals from writing code dealing with gun control. Thanks to a suit filed in part by @DanDaley, that law was tossed. I think you know who is behind it. It rhymes with NRA. #AskFLLeg

How does the legislature’s abuse of preemption impact local efforts to enact #GunControl measures to keep communities safe? What special interests are behind these efforts? #AskFLLeg #FLLocalDemocracy @OrgFlorida

Hey Susan. You’ve hit on one of the most bizarre aspects of FLs legislature. I served in this chamber for the entire Obama administration. The wailing and gnashing of teeth over Fed mandates was unreal. And yet the second they have the opportunity the crush locals. #AskFLLeg

As someone who carried the ERA bill a few years back, I wish I had better news for you. Oppents constantly hid behind the fact there hasn’t seen movement in a long while. Even if you accept that as true, it doesn’t mean it’s not the proper thing to. #AskFLLeg
Liv Coleman@LivColemanFL

.@AnnaForFlorida @evanjenne, I'm encouraged the Manatee County Commission approved a resolution in support of the ERA by a 5-1 margin. Will we see the Florida legislature take action this session? #AskFLLeg #FLLocalDemocracy cc: @BillGalvano heraldtribune.com/news/20191210/…

I would have to agree. I’m headed into my 12th session and still shocked by the lack of thoughtfulness shown at times. There is something about being a few hundred miles from home that makes people forget who sent them here. #AskFLLeg

A recent poll found that 80% of Floridians felt their local governments are more in-tune with local needs than the state legislature, and should be able to pass policies that reflect their community’s needs and values. Do you agree? #AskFLLeg #FLLocalDemocracy

Hey Ang. Unfortunately, there is no check and there is no balance. The state has nearly unfettered power. The best thing to do is ask candidates where the stand on the issue, then hold their feet to the fire when in office #AskFLLeg

Angela from Fort Myers asked, "What are the checks and balances between local and state governments? As Floridians, what can the individuals or groups of individuals do...to keep the State Senate from being the only law maker in the state?" #AskFLLeg #FLLocalDemocracy

It depends on the legislator. Myself, I believe in digging as deep as possible. I’ve worked with academics as often as possible, reaching out to help with writing legislation. Unfortunately, many simply do as the lobbyists say.

@AnnaForFlorida #askflleg How do our legislators conduct research and convert their findings into actions? Is there a way universities can get involved ?

Over the past decade, the legislature has impacted #WorkersProtections in a purely negative way. For every step local governments have taken to move the issue forward the legislature has hamstrung them to make sure it doesn’t happen elsewhere.

For first time in over a decade, we're addressing #ClimateChange at the state level in Florida. While @SenRickScott allegedly banned employees from even saying climate change, I know it should be front & center. We can't afford to ignore the problems of future. #PoweringChange
