@XFilesAesthetic @Super_Sodiq I always imagine if fights aren't allowed, skates and sticks would be used more in frustration. A fight is honorable, two-hand swinging a stick at someone's neck is dishonorable. Fights will never leave the game of hockey.

@Super_Sodiq Is it like a tradition or something? Or it's just tolerated? What if someone gets seriously injured? Do they press charges? So many questions.

Is there a "go shopping with @dieworkwear lottery"? I don't gamble, but I'd put in $100. I bet we could generate $100k pretty easily. $50k to charity. $25k to derek guy and $25k to travel and a new wardrobe.

@fburki Sub 60 is really quite low... should have SELMA trees that suggest this outcome as well?

After reading this paper in more details, I think that it needs to be taken with a word of caution. There are many issues that affect my confidence in the conclusions: eg low bootstrap support for the critical nodes, no CATGTR analysis, the inclusion of rpl36 the supermatrix etc

@jim_bouldin @MicrobiomDigest I disagree. It's the motivation to cheat that leads to image manipulation. The point I'm trying to make is that even with image verification processes, I'm confident I could cheat without anyone knowing. I don't because of my values. There will always be ways to cheat.

I honestly don't see this as a concern. Any unethical scientist has been able to make convincing data for decades or centuries. Sure, it's easier now. Finding ways to police fraud isn't and has never been the solution. We need to prevent and disincentivize scientific fraud.
Elisabeth Bik@MicrobiomDigest

AI can be used to make convincing looking fake data. There is no way we can distinguish real from fake anymore. It is safe to assume that genAI has already resulted in many fake papers. Scientific publishing is not prepared for this.

@evocellbio We can only catch the dumb fraudsters unfortunately. For every one we catch and post on PubPeer, there might be many more others who have executed their fraud better.
