I needed to do the laundry, but then I realized I was out of detergent. So I went to write a shopping list and realized how unorganized the junk drawer was, and started checking pens for ink. When I went to toss all the junk, I saw that the trash was full, but before I took it out I wanted to get rid of old food in the fridge. That’s when I realized a juice jug had leaked, so I needed to clean it up. But when I went to grab a rag, I saw that the pantry closet was a nightmare, so I started organizing it. And that’s how I ended up on the floor looking at my old photo albums from the 1990s and not doing laundry.

I talk a lot about being raised in the 60s and 70s because it’s important. It was a world where: Families didn't break up over politics. Actors didn't tell us who to vote for. Movies and TV shows didn't try to depress us about our lives. Cartoons didn't try to turn us gay. We never heard the n-word or f-bombs coming out of our radios. I could ride public transportation without worrying about being kidnapped by pedophiles. I could go to school without getting jumped. Nobody told us what words we were allowed to say. There were no TRANS kids. Nobody told you their pronouns. A man was a man, a woman was a woman, and nobody pretended otherwise. Nobody lost their job or their home or their family or their friends for merely stating biological facts. We respected cops, teachers, and the flag. We celebrated CHRISTMAS, not Kwanzaa. Nobody was "offended" by EVERYTHING. If anybody WAS offended by something, it was THEIR PERSONAL PROBLEM, not a national crisis. Call me old-fashioned and outdated but I really miss those days. So God, if you're listening, this is my prayer: Take us back to the good old days of American civility, PLEASE. AMEN.

As she got better, the biggest disappointment was that she couldn't vote today in Texas. I called the Republicans of Texas, who told us how to get a sick & disabled form. My sister had to go get the form, bring it to the hospital for her doctor to sign proving she was ill, then bring the signed doctor's form back to the election place! THEN she had to bring the ballot back, follow all proper procedures and our beautiful Mom voted! THEN my sister returned the ballot to the election headquarters. All that for her ONE vote. If an 86 year-old woman with incurable cancer can go to all that trouble to vote, so can the rest of us! So proud of her!
