@CheburekiMan I'd be shocked if people in the pentagon didn't raise the issue loudly, but trump and kegbreath being the brazen morons they are, it is impossible to imagine them even entertaining the discussion.

It really does appear that nobody in the Trump admin nor the Pentagon had a contingency plan for what happens if the Iranian state didn't collapse. The success of the operation was riding on that one single point of failure, and it failed. One would think heads would roll over an egregious miscalculation like that, but that would be an admission by the Trump admin that the operation was a poorly-planned clusterfuck right from the beginning.

RE: The Pilot’s Rescue (an alternate history) It’s April 5th, 2026 (or, as President Kamala Harris declared it, the “Trans Day of Visibility”). On a routine training mission over Kuwait, an American F-15 pilot became disoriented, failed to respond to orders from her flight lead, and flew into Iranian airspace, only to be immediately shot down by China’s latest air defense system, bought by Iran with the money President Harris had been shipping to Iran monthly to assist in the build-up of their nuclear weapons program. The pilot was a 1st Lt. and had just recently graduated from flight school, over the objections of her instructor pilots. Despite her known shortcomings, the training squadron commander had been forced to give her a set of wings and an F-15 seat because otherwise he would have failed to meet his monthly quota for female pilots. On the run, 1st Lt. Jones was doing the best she could to evade Iranian ground forces, but due to changes in SERE training to make it less offensive to a variety of leftwing grievance groups, she really did not know what she was doing. Still, she had not yet been captured. President Harris convened her core inner circle for national defense matters in an emergency meeting: 1. Vice President Elmer Fudd (known for his proficiency in shooting down flying birds). 2. Secretary of State Adam Schiff. 3. National Security Advisor Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. 4. Secretary of Defense Tom Nichols. 5. CIA Director Alexander Vindman. 5. Chairwoman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ADM Lisa Franchetti. After 30 minutes of deliberation, the President’s team determined it was too risky to mount an attempt to rescue 1st Lt. Jones. The CENTCOM commander was ordered to call Jones on her survival radio and order her to surrender, while Secretary Schiff would negotiate her release. (Israel had offered to help but President Harris would not even take their call.) Following orders, 1st Lt. Jones surrendered and was taken to Tehran for interrogation. Due to the open borders policies of President Harris and her predecessor, President Biden, Iran had a large, functioning arm of its Quds Force on the ground in the USA. Members of that force went to 1st Lt. Jones’ house and took pictures of her children playing in the front yard. Showing these pictures to Jones and threatening to kill her children, 1st Lt. Jones was forced to film a tearful confession of war crimes and a lengthy denunciation of the USA as “The Great Satan.” (CNN played this video virtually on a loop for 7 days while their announcers silently smiled like Hannibal Lecter.) Months of negotiations ensued between Schiff and Iran, and ultimately Schiff was able to obtain Jones' release by agreeing to (i) ship 500 pounds of enriched, weapons grade uranium to Tehran, (ii) send $500bn in cash in small bills to the Iranian mullahs, (iii) withdraw all US forces from the Persian Gulf region, (iv) denounce Israel as a Satanic force and (v) make President Harris wear a hijab during all public appearances regarding the matter. Upon 1LT Jones’ return home, she was met with great fanfare by a hijab-wearing President Harris at the White House, where Jones was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, a Purple Heart, promoted to Captain and appointed to carry Harris’ nuclear football. Months later Iran nuked Tel Aviv, Israel nuked Tehran in response and Secretary Schiff agreed to broker peace negotiations. (Unfortunately for the mullahs, the Twelfth Imam did not then arise from a well in Qom. Boy oh boy were they pissed.) Then I woke up and remembered what really happened: SecWar’s team put together a daring plan, President Trump said “EXECUTE” and we did. * * * P.S., coming from a family with military aviators and having spent plenty of time in the back of military aircraft piloted by women, I must say that there are PLENTY of highly competent female pilots whom I would trust with my life. But the fact is that during Democrat regimes plenty of unqualified people of all sorts were advanced into all kinds of jobs they had no business performing, thanks to DEI policies. I mean no offense to the many highly qualified female combat aviators, with whom I would proudly serve.

JFC. The ride up and back on explosive rockets. No hope of rescue if something goes wrong. Land on a place where no one has been. Pretty sure riding on a kart that goes max 10mph would be the least of their concerns. Worth it? Why not, they visited from far away and wanted to get around as far as they could. That’s why it’s called exploration. You must not venture far outside mommy’s safe basement.

@DutchHumanist @AntonioSabatoJr Tested with lunar surface conditions that they knew nothing about. Checks out. Nobody asked whether or not it would “work” the question is how dangerous it was to ride around in and wasn’t worth it. You can keep making things up all you want. Be my guest.

Just went to my bookshelf and here are two I read by junior enlisted. A Footsoldier for Patton: The Story of a “Red Diamond” Infantryman by Michael C. Bilder. And I Marched with Patton: A Firsthand Account of World War II Alongside One of the U.S. Army’s Greatest Generals by Frank Sisson. No hatred. Mixed feelings certainly.

RE: DC Politics and Senior Military Officers After the Vietnam War, America felt collective guilt over how it had treated our servicemen and women, so as a result the “yellow ribbon,” “Thank you for your service” culture has flourished for decades, with the US military consistently ranking near the top of America’s most respected and trusted institutions in public polling. That is a good thing. However, that does not mean we do not still have some rotten apples in uniform, many of whom reach very high ranks as generals or admirals. It’s time that those very senior generals and admirals not be given automatic, reflexive deference with zero scrutiny by the public. It’s time the public hold them to the same standards we hold our elected officials. What have you done for me lately? Are you honest? Who comes first, your ego or the nation? And you know what? It’s kind of sad that we have come to this point, but the generals and admirals only have themselves to blame. You see, at the level of elected officials, senior political appointees and career senior executive service members, the DC infighting that occurs on a routine daily basis is like Game of Thrones without the dragons and the literal beheadings. DC politics are Machiavellian. They are bloodthirsty. It is a take no prisoners war for power, using all manner of underhanded and devious methods. Many decades ago, the generals and admirals knew these fights were not their domain. Mostly speaking, they were above all of that. But—thanks in large part to Goldwater/Nichols and our unholy addiction to the “interagency”—as we fostered generation after generation of officers with deep experience in The Swamp, those same officers came to believe that the Machiavellian rules of their civilian bosses were theirs to play by too. Slow-rolling initiatives you disagree with? Yup. Playing the Georgetown cocktail party game of scurrilous rumormongering? Check. Running around your chain of command to Congress to get what you want? Absolutely. Being the “anonymous source” in an anonymously-sourced Washington Post article that was nothing more than outright lies and libel? Roger that. The problem is this: WE HAVE GENERALS AND ADMIRALS WHO THINK THOSE GAME OF THRONES RULES APPLY TO THEM. Not only do they think they apply to them, they consider it to be standard operating procedure and a literal requirement of their DC duty position. Well I got some news for you, general. You too, admiral. You are UNIFORMED MEMBERS OF OUR MILITARY SERVICES, and your oath is to the Constitution, not your ego. We expect more from you than we do sleazeball civilian lawyers in positions of power. We expect your integrity to be impeccable, and by playing by DC Game of Thrones rules, you sacrifice that integrity entirely. (See: Courtney Massengale; use your search engine of choice if you do not know.) Pete Hegseth has been given a Herculean task to clean out the Augean Stables at the Pentagon. He has been doing it, slowly but surely, and he is eradicating that corrupt culture at the top of the military food chain bit by bit, piece by piece. So the next time you see Hegseth fire a general or an admiral, consider that one of two things might be true: 1. The general/admiral refused to be a “sycophant” (as the Democrat/Media Complex will claim) and got fired by a meanie SecWar as punishment. -or- 2. The general/admiral didn’t like a lawful order because it went against his/her personal politics, so he/she decided to go around the electoral will of the American people and satisfy his/her own ego to play Daenerys Targaryen DC games, got caught, and got righteously fired as a result. Consider the difference. Clean up your act generals. You too, admirals. You work for THE PEOPLE (you know, like at the top of the Constitution). Do it.
