@texasrunnerDFW @NancyMace The elderly should have the ability to “cap out” at some point. Expecting an 80 year old widow to pay exorbitant property taxes on her home that had increased 10-20x in value is simply wrong.

@RossionQ @EvelynPR0777 Property taxes, especially on land, had broad support among founding politicians. They are largely in line with Jefferson-Madison Democratic Republicanism.

@EvelynPR0777 No one should lose their property because of extortion from the state. The founding fathers would have already strung up our politicians and rightfully so. Theives and beggars, every last one of them

No senior should have to pay property taxes. They worked hard all their life, paid their mortgage and when they retire they should not be afraid of losing it due to property taxes. This is not a one state issue, should be in all states.

@JillFilipovic Jill the biggest cohort of people blocking construction of new housing are boomers. They have engaged in self serving protectionism for decades, and are now suffering from their own success! They are reaping what they have sowed.

Here's my contrarian view: Housing isn't just about houses. It's also about communities. There actually is a ton of value in allowing people to age where they have connections and community. We should build *more* housing, but suggesting the answer is old people just move really misses a lot.
Hunter📈🌈📊@StatisticUrban

Really, they should probably pay more in property taxes. Efficiently distributing housing is a far more important goal than ensuring Boomers can hang on to large houses that growing families need simply for sentimental reasons.

“I have so much awesome stuff in the private sector, and that’s why a few days after losing a primary I’m filing for the next election so I can keep taking campaign donations” Anyway, I look forward to your next “I totes have Epstein names” attention ploy.
Thomas Massie@RepThomasMassie

@sunnyright Nothing left but a wonderful family, 30 patents, 2 engineering degrees from MIT, a farm with a peach orchard, a herd of Wagyu cattle, a dozen inventions in my head, a clucks capacitor roaming my fields, and investors lined up to back whatever I invent next.

We can increase the supply of houses without even building any (I still support building millions of new units). We can just prosecute criminals and watch as once avoided neighborhoods become legitimate options for families.
Bobby Fijan@bobbyfijan

There are millions of inexpensive homes that already exist in "walkable" neighborhoods This 2000sf home is $250k in Philadelphia. 4 blocks from major subway. The problem is that the safety & schools of neighborhood are such that very few people with means choose to live here

@0kCorker @zenrealtornyc @urbanresidue TA compiled the report using publicly available government datasets: NYC DOT’s bike routes data and the city’s streets centerline data from DOITT. The underlying numbers aren’t TA’s invention. You could run the same calculation from the same public sources and get the same result

@zenrealtornyc @urbanresidue Point to a specific methodological flaw, or find a competing analysis that reaches a different number. Otherwise you’re just dismissing data because you don’t like who organized it. That’s a textbook genetic fallacy.
