For all the ornithology enthusiasts: Need help ID’ing this bird. I’m thinking either just a house sparrow or possibly a clay-colored sparrow

@MargueriteTurl2 @7StellarJays Not great at macro or close-up photography, like you guys, but I did get to photograph a Fiery Skipper on Amaranth last week, which is not the easiest butterfly to photograph here in Illinois.

@7StellarJays Could use some help identifying this larger yellow and black insect as well as the tinier guy attacking him if you don’t mind. Photographed in Illinois

@7StellarJays @extinctfacts I get that. I love iNat, but a lot of times I just get confused especially when it comes to flies. I need to get a guide that I can look things up!

@g_rouby Could be, but the lignite that I’ve seen in the Dakotas before is usually a reddish-brown coloration.

@Esssie31 That’s what I was thinking, based on the striations, but it feels smooth and oily. Almost like shale.

@NotThatMarsh So that’s where I left my avocado. I knew my toast tasted a little bland this morning.

This week you’re searching for a western banded gecko, Coleonyx variegatus. Males sometime squeak or chirp when captured or when defending territory against other males. Can you #FindThatLizard ? Post guesses with #FoundThatLizard. I’ll tweet the reveal at 9pm PT. Good luck 🦎💜

@PalaeoPictures That’s an awesome specimen and a great example of evolutionary traits! Do you know what collection or museum this is in?
