Happy Pokémon Day! 30 years of Pokémon is crazy to process! One of my earliest memories of it was the first time it aired on normal British TV in 1999, when the first episode aired on SMTV Live on ITV3. I remember how it was introduced, I remember Ant & Dec and Cat Deeley’s funny Pokémon skits. I remember how the anime actually got me into anime. I remember falling in love with Pikachu’s cuteness and also calling Oddish, “Oddy” for the longest time because I couldn’t hear the pronunciation of it well 😂 And then in the year 2000, I got my first ever Pokémon game that I could call my own: Pokemon Yellow. Growing up, I always had to share with my brother. But sometimes kids want their own things! I remember struggling to beat the first two gym leaders with my low level Pikachu and eventually had to ask my lil brother for help. He’s 3 years my junior, and he figured how to level up and train better than I certainly did — and he beat the gym leaders for me —with me breathing down his neck to make sure he beat Brock and Misty. And when he did, we both cheered so hard! How ironic that I wanted my own game because we bickered a lot, but in the end we still had that sibling connection, all thanks to Pokémon 🥹 What are your earliest memories of Pokémon?
