Ten months ago, I set a goal to design and build the visual notes app of my dreams. To give it one year. This week, the first Alpha invites went out 🤘 In no small part thanks to the amazing feedback I've gotten from you guys. Can't thank you enough for supporting this journey!
@burakeregar I’m always inspired by people who just make it happen, keep winning man. I’m internalising that all my goals are on the otherside of embracing cringe
i remember reading pieter’s book in january before leaving my 13 years of career behind to go all in with indie hacking.
8 month in: i already quitted 3 months ago, started building in public and travelling the world and the man himself followed me
sounds cringe but it means a lot to me
The real problem isn't that creatives aren't building portfolios anymore—it's that portfolio evaluation is completely broken.
Every recruiter, hiring manager, and decision-maker has wildly different criteria for what makes a "good" portfolio. This subjective chaos has created a job market where talented creatives are constantly rejected for reasons they can't predict or control.
Worse yet, candidates rarely receive meaningful feedback from reviewers to help them improve. Without actionable input on what specifically didn't work or how to enhance their presentation, creatives are left guessing and making changes in the dark. This combination of ambiguous criteria and absent feedback creates a perfect storm for content creators to capitalize on creative professionals' imposter syndrome. Ultimately discouraging them from doing so.
Influencers and course sellers then exploit these insecurities by promoting "proven portfolio formulas" and "insider secrets," generating even more discrepancies and confusion within the industry. This predatory cycle amplifies the very problem it claims to solve, leaving creatives more uncertain than ever about what actually works.
No portfolio tool can fix this fundamental communication and evaluation problem.

Color's got to be one of the fastest ways to recognize meaning. Green for done, red for priority, pink for insights.. It's like we're hard wired for it. However you use them, I'm hoping a color picker like this might make you want to use them more often.
@KomboMatt It’s my first year freelancing after being laid off end of last year, only managed 3 projects totaling around 13k for the year so far. Real tough switch, focusing on developing relationships for repeat work. Thank god I had some savings
