@Storm5farms @TheWittyFarmer I’ve been wearing the Columbia long sleeve shirts for 3 or 4 summers. Light colors to help reflect light. I wear the t-shirt style, the button up are too loose and afraid they will catch on something.

@TheWittyFarmer Most of the old 8mm videos my grandpa took had guys wearing long sleeve shirts and straw hats which certainly helps. I’m not about to wear long sleeve shirts in the heat.

15th Annual “Freeze Your Nuts & Bolts Off” tractor ride had a cold start to the day but it’s still a “go”. Lost an Allis on the first leg this morning, thankfully not much wind. I’m sure the “antifreeze” will be flowing at the lunch stop

@CowsnRedbirds Have done several this week, so many dead ash trees in our area we are trying to clean up. Rented a saw for the skid steer, I have several groves of them where they are 4-8” diameter, working great.

Tales from the Feedyard (Uncensored)
It had to be a pretty shitty day in an 86 Pete when I told myself driving a 1/4 mile to work and feeding cattle 6 hours every single fucking day 365 days a year was gonna be a better life.

I had store bought meat tonight and it was awful. Just ground beef. Prepared it no differently then how I would put home raised. I couldn’t even finish my meal. So the question is, is there that big of a difference or did I get a cheap/wrong ground beef today. Cuz it was rough

@DozzzzzEric @Dusty3080467325 Thank you. The way I understand it, he married well, and everything else came only because of that. He has proven what I learned in banking: the REALLY rich people never have enough.

Hosted our annual BS shop session yesterday, 22 producers talking about grazing , fencing, feed systems. Majority of time spent on virtual grazing collars. I see a lot of potential in managing some of our pasture better. This won’t be feasible for all the cows at present costs.

In 48 years of life I had never had liver and onions until last night. Turns out it’s easy, nutritious and delicious and I’m mad cuz all you haters scared me away from it for all these years.

@rhonfarm @PaulPoteet We have been getting moisture, soaking into a very dry profile. Less than ideal feeding conditions. Not much progress on our winter brush cutting/ hedge post cutting or laying tile. Thankful for the moisture though.

@PaulPoteet Ok I could really use some, it’s muddy but the pond is lower than I’ve seen it in January. I know you can’t satisfy a farmer 😂

1900 acres of former agricultural land that for the last 100 years has grown asparagus, apple trees and other commodities unique to Michigan’s landscape on the shores of Lake Michigan I guess some would rather import food from a foreign country

That time of year again we’re hiring for harvest 26. Great opportunity for someone young to get off the farm for a summer and learn, and we can help them get their class 1. Season runs July to October, work in USA, AB, and Sask. ThackerHarvesting.ca RT’s appreciated!

@SchwabMatt I open up church, turn heat or air on and go have “old man” coffee at the diner. Some good history, some BS but always enjoy it. Back home for chores by 7:30

I’ve noticed a lot of people filling the restaurants on Sunday morning for breakfast thinking it’s a nice luxury The real luxury is a slow start here at home sipping some coffee I made myself, then pancakes with real maple syrup we made from our own trees

@panotiller Our house was built in mid 1800’s, major remodel in 33, remodel in 67. Foundation is junk, considered moving to new foundation. Tearing down in the spring and building back on sight. Hoping to keep a farmhouse look. Office will have original French doors, trim and wood floor.

@BradSchutte76 Red clover and cereal rye that just headed. I fed this morning and didn’t get back to look this afternoon. Going to try oats ,at dough stage, alfalfa, red clover, perennial rye grass, orchard grass blend tomorrow. Definitely cutting it into much smaller pieces vs unrolling.
