There's a new bipartisan bill to counter the mass surveillance of Americans, but I don't see anyone talking about it. This should be much bigger news. It mandates warrants before the government can access Americans' web browsing history, search queries, location data, and information from connected vehicles. It also prohibits government agencies from purchasing the private communications, location information, and other personal data of Americans from third-party data brokers. And it bans "backdoor" searches where government officials look through information collected on non-Americans for data on Americans. This is objectively one of the most significant bipartisan reform proposals to prevent government overreach in decades. I think it should go further than this, but it's a good start and it's important for us to pay attention to. Everything has changed since 9/11 and even moreso since the Snowden leak. We've lost so much of our privacy, it's gonna be an uphill battle just to get it back.

tbh I miss the "it just worked" era of technology Console games would instantly start, no fluff. You could bring discs to a friends house or your memory card and not worry about PSN/XBL and have all the saves there if you wanted to show them something cool. These corded controllers too, you didn't have to worry about dead batteries left in or remembering to recharge player 2's controller. The only annoying thing to me was the multitap. But whoever owned it along with a bomberman mp game was the champ of the party. Whoever owned a modchip was god. Side rant: Even with modern PC's, they're so damn inconvenient to use out of the box. Especially to regular non-tech people. Because of """security""" now EVERYONE has to go through so many stupid prompts (UAC, SmartScreen, unknown publisher) to run anything not from a corporation. Good luck with that indie devs~ It's so fantastic that Microslop deliberately hides the "Allow" button under a teeny tiny text that says "Read more" ...READ MORE?! why the F**K is it under that?! Oh! Of course so developers buy signed certificates that costs HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS YEARLY just so the popup goes away for their customers. ...Which can also be withdrawn if MS feels like it one day. No wonder boomers and late zoomers are so tech illiterate and assume everything is a virus FFS Of course there's also the removal of easily changeable automatic updates FFS ...Also what's that? You signed into your work's outlook account and clicked the buttons too fast without reading? YAYYY You've just turned your ENTIRE WINDOWS LOGIN into an online Microsoft account that syncs your everything important to your employer, that'll probably break in a few years. CONGRATULATIONS Oh? You wanna undo onedrive screwing with your desktop and libraries? TIME TO OPEN REGEDIT TO FIX YOUR PATHS SINCE IT'S GREYED OUT IN THE UI WTF?! Another convenient thing taken away are DVD drives. I have trouble letting go of this tech simply because CD/DVDs's were SO DAMN CHEAP you could just MASSIVE games or media files away to friends without the worry of having them return anything. USB's are so damn expensive to give out in mass, so you end up letting people "borrow" it. Only for it to get lost anyway. Nobody is obviously buying a 50 pk of USB sticks for $20 bucks and giving them away for these types of small favors. This makes it also very annoying when buying peripherals and having to go to some dumb af website and download a 500mb file when we could've just inserted a disc and clicked next in the past. "HOPE YOU BROUGHT A USB CD DRIVE HURHURHUR! NO INTERNET UP THIS WAY!!!" great, fantastic
