Investigation Launched After Teen Detained in Police Mix-Up at New Jersey Deli Authorities have launched an investigation after a 13-year-old boy was taken down and detained by officers during an apparent case of mistaken identity inside a deli in East Orange. The incident unfolded Friday afternoon at Jenny Deli and Grocery, where surveillance video shows officers confronting Alkyair Williams as part of a firearm investigation. The teen, who was reportedly shopping at the time, was grabbed by an officer as he exited the store and forced onto a stack of boxes before additional officers entered and handcuffed him. According to the boy, officers did not explain the situation as they detained him. Family members say the teen was wrongfully targeted and are raising concerns about the level of force used. His mother, Amirah May, said police later told her they were searching for a man in his twenties, prompting questions about how the mix-up occurred. The Newark Police Division confirmed its officers were involved in a joint federal firearm investigation and has opened an internal review through its Office of Professional Standards.
