@ListerLawrence I ran a 2024 s350d (while still sold to fleet customers) for a few weeks. Per mile fuel cost less than a 320i, and given the reliance on diesel for commercial and industrial applications id see no reason to be concerned about owning one for 5 years or so

Advice needed: I’m going to buy a Mercedes S Class. There are some mega deals on the last of the old shape cars. The two options are S450d 4WD or S580e 4WD hybrid. My question is am I mad to be buying an S450d in 2026 when diesels seem to be a dying breed. The s580e is £10k more expensive and I don’t like the inconvenience of plugging it in everyday. I was going to go ahead with the diesel but this is a car I want to keep 5 years. Thoughts please?

@AlexEdgerton Not sure why you say it barely exists, the central circle has been in every modern mini in one form or another. I dont see why they would revert to any standard resolution, circular displays are not expensive as they are cut from the same mother panel as any other kind of display

How can something that barely existed be a core part of anything? Every app has to be proprietary. Right now the dead space is a function of the circle. I’m betting they move to a standard resolution eventually. The added cost can be either savings for customers or profit for the company.

The goofy screen shapes will not stand the test of time. This includes the bent Porsche screens, and even the cute round display of the Cooper. Same goes for any auxiliary miniature strip screens, like the one above it. It’s a lot of added cost and headache due to its proprietary nature, forcing manufacturers to create a one off, and subsequently all app developers must follow suit. All for zero actual benefit. Main display is here to stay. All the weird stuff is a fad phase many manufacturers will go through to get attention, before realizing that standardized resolutions exist for a reason. Software is a new thing for them, and this is all part of the learning curve.

We're not in crazy COVID car market times anymore Toto. This car would have been ~£175k a couple of years ago. Legit mint too by the looks of things. Someone got a decent deal on this at £103k (~£110k with fees) at auction yesterday.
