Umpire incompetence or a Rulebook/ABS Mismatch issue? 🤔 This pitch may have been both: -a Strike according the rulebook strike zone (3 dimensional/starting at the front of the plate), and -a Ball, according to ABS (2 dimensional/measured at the middle of the plate).

OTD 1989: #Reds OF Kal Daniels and owner Marge Schott settle a $25,000 difference in salary negotiations with a coin flip. Daniels wanted $325,00 in salary, while the club was offering $300,000. Schott proposed the coin flip, and Daniels and his agent agreed. The coin flip took place in the parking lot at the Reds spring training complex in Plant City, Florida. It was carried live by @WLWT during their 5:30 newscast. Using a 50-cent piece, Schott called heads and it came up tails, earning Daniels $25,000. MLB commissioner Peter Ueberroth, in the middle of investigating Pete Rose, was not amused. He warned Schott that settling future contract matters in that manner would result in disciplinary action.

NFL suspended Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase for spitting at Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey. Chase denied spitting at Ramsey, but the league determined the video evidence was sufficient to warrant a suspension.
