There's this weird little void between Product and Engineering. I live in that void. Tweets about tech, product and entrepreneurship. #indiehacker

@louispereira Fully agree! Must-read if your'e starting a marketplace: The Cold Start Problem. It's essential to identify the smallest functional network (e.g. 1 airbnb host, X guests) and scale these nodes.

@LeahThar interesting! makes me think about how campaigns, metrics, conversions are connected. Low campaign quality acquires the wrong traffic, leading to 'high drop rate'. Acquiring the right traffic means less total traffic but more targeted; buying at a higher price, better conversion

Cory Doctorow NO LONGER ON TWIT TER
So there's a great Thai restaurant in my neighborhood called Kiin. Yesterday, I searched for their website to order some takeout. Here's the Google result.

@Yannick_Veys why should the 95% matter (ignoring marketing value of CR7) if the $200M are a signal to the handful of decision makers?

Christiano Ronaldo made the deal of the century. A Saudi soccer club will pay him $200 million per year. The masterplan behind it: The Saudis want to bid for the 2030 Worldcup. The problem: 95% of people will only remember Ronaldo. Not the country he's being sponsored by.

@allenholub As a non-native speaker this feels like such an elegant solution (compared to other languages especially).

Maybe this will get me in trouble, but I think it's better to use "they" instead of either "he" _or_ "she" in writing. I'd rather use an entirely neutral word than replace one gender with another. (For the pedants, "they" has been a neutral singular pronoun since Chaucer's time.)

@levelsio @wichmaennchen @arvidkahl Subjective take, but influencer means to me someone who tailors your content towards a specific audience. In comparison your audience grew around your authentic voice. Maybe it's a chicken-egg thing but I would've never thought of labeling you as an influencer.

@wichmaennchen @arvidkahl It seems quite targeted at me with the whole "digital nomad influencer" thing, so a bit weird to read and well sad for him/her

Oh wow, the top post on Hacker News is about a disillusioned indie founder giving up due to mental health issues. “I am done. I give up” It’s a hard read, but an important one. Protect your mental health. What this founder experiences is very common. news.ycombinator.com/item?id=341038…

@marckohlbrugge Couldn't agree more. Had to go windows for the last two weeks because of a repair and it's the first time now that I'd openly admit I like Apple 🙊 Also started using tailwind for my last projects and it's been a real joy so far!

They say tech stacks don’t matter, but I’ve had 3 times in my life that made a very meaningful change: Windows XP 👉 Mac OS X PHP 4 👉 Ruby on Rails BEM CSS 👉 Tailwind CSS

@marckohlbrugge @levelsio @Austen Next wave of successful AI-ish startups will use such "open tech" to capture a bigger chunk of the value chain, the chunk that was too complex before so it had to be its own business.

Discussion with my friend: my friend: What's the point of learning this AI stuff or even building AI stuff if there's no moat anyway? It's all open tech and even if you learn and make something it'll just get outcompeted/copied by someone else later?

🥈#2 product of the day!🎉 I am VERY happy! What a completely wild 24 hours with a MUCH bigger response than we expected 🥰. I got a bit excited with the multi-colored arrows 😂 Remember you can still get 40% off with the PH coupon until the end of 2022 🥳producthunt.com/posts/ellie-6

Interesting to see that no matter how well-loved a product or a company is. It's always just one pushy price update away from backlash.

The real-time page updating seems over-engineered, but it's just a few lines of code with Rails 7 + Hotwire 👌
