My side from a conversation where somebody reached out a little disconcerted by their wandering thoughts.

@haruinfigaruai @MothAccountant I enjoy challenging them with cognitive dissonance. But you're right, and this isn't the account I should be getting into debates on. I ought to turn my notifications back off. Thank you for stepping in though; you cover the issue so much more eloquently than I can, these days.

@fillthythoughts @MothAccountant They're just latching onto your phraseology as a convenient semantic bypass to avoid debating the actual, core topic. It's usually better to just not take the bait and steer the conversation back on track.

@grok Define mutilation, and does castration qualify, voluntarily or not? What about neutering?
Dave Lepid@MothAccountant

@fillthythoughts 1If spaying and neutering is mutilation then any surgery on a non human animal that cannot grasp their health diagnosis or communicate clearly to consent to treatment is mutilation. It's stupid to call it that. A majority of pet animals such as dogs and cats owned by people-

It's crazy how you can be having the worst day ever, and then you sit down and pet a dog and everything just gets better.

@Catlawn Desexing animals increases all form mortality and increases the likelihood of untreatable cancers. If you aren't responsible enough to prevent your pet from having offspring, noticing illnesses, then you shouldn't have a pet. Don't mutilate them to make up for owner incompetence.

@fillthythoughts Why are you using AI for this? By the standards given from grok it can be considered not mutilation if there are health issues of the animal due to the gonads being intact. That wouldn't make spaying or neutering mutilation 100% of the time like you're believing. Gen Nmay Nbr

There is no such thing as a disordered attraction to animals. "Zoophilic disorder" describes a condition similar to depression. All paraphilic disorders are a form of an internal self-deprecative pattern that has nothing directly to do with the type of attraction. I argue they are all the same condition, because psychologically, the experience and root cause is no different. The DSM doesn't clarify this, because it is designed primarily for diagnosis, where we have different criteria for some of them based on risk factors.
Dave Lepid@MothAccountant

@fillthythoughts 1You can have a sexual attraction to non human animals and have it be a disorder and you can have a sexual attraction to non human animals and have it not be a disorder. Both exist. That is what I'm saying and I don't get how you can't grasp that. Are we agreeing there or am I-

I won't support vandalism, especially of private property, but I will say the more you dramatize this, the more it will happen. When people feel too oppressed to speak, they almost always turn to something more extreme. Hateful comments only escalate further, and you are the instigator for that discrimination. Make no mistake, that's exactly what it is; condemning a group of people for the actions of the few... Racism uses the same rationale. If you want to complain, you're better off focusing on the vandalism, because that's something they might feel guilty for. A healthy zoo, by clinical psychiatric definition, does not feel guilty about their attraction. Trying to make a zoo feel guilty is trying to trigger a mental illness. And over something they cannot help? It's literally bullying, and you're responsible. And yes, I saw this post from my furry account. You'll never know if one of your friends is zoo if you only promote hatred towards them. They will never feel safe enough to be honest with you. In the end, you're in a fandom full of people "attracted to animals"; you shouldn't be surprised when you find there are people ~attracted to animals~. From my polls over the last three years, around 30% of furries are zoo, and likely more are zoo allies. That's a lot of people with silent animosity towards yourself and others with ignorant prejudice in their hearts.

@hereforthezoo All the same, I don't see eating vegetarian as inconvenient. I was for decades and can count on one hand the number of times it was notably awkward. People just need to be confronted more with their virtue inconsistencies. I see more people quitting meat when faced with reality.

It's funny 'cause people call out the comparison here as harsh, but its actually extremely true. Slaves provided utility, convenience and made life easier. For a while there, the harder choice to make was to *not* use slaves. It was a personal sacrifice for the greater good. It was only when enough people made that sacrifice that the world decided that it should make larger social changes.
Aella@Aella_Girl

a great test of "would you have been chill with owning slaves, if you'd been born into a slave-owning family" is whether or not you're vegetarian today

@HotSauceBender @Catlawn Feel free to dispute the science. x.com/i/status/18820…
Ffff_ 🐺@alwayswasamutt

That is utterly untrue. The publications on the subject indicate that gonadectomy leads to lifelong undesirable behavioural changes, increases in morbidity, poor mental health, injuries, illnesses and an increase in *untreatable* cancers. Elective desexing has become illegal in some countries! 🤷🤷 Take your pick: 1 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37295978/ 2 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11439769/ 3 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27931211/ 4 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14765797/ 5 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39679821/ 6 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31314808/ 7 sci-hub.usualwant.com/10.1111/j.1439… (paywalled) And there are PLENTY more. After all the reading I've done, even if I weren't a zeta, I would never, ever screw with the natural hormones of an animal without an absolute necessity to do so. The evidence is damning. We must do it for convenience and profit, because the rest is a lie. It doesn't even reduce the number of shelter dogs! Bah!

If you only capture the negative behaviour with punishment, your dog will have no idea what you want. Capturing the desired behaviour with positive reinforcement tells him exactly what you want from him. Dogs have co-evolved with us for thousands of years. They are hard wired to please us. The moment you replace aversive obedience "training" with an actual education for your dog, he will show you how smart he truly is.

@APA Half the problem is people's prior experiences teaching them it's socially unacceptable to have been wrong at all; being bullied for their mistakes. You'd think that leads people to be less 'certain' about things to begin with, but I think that only comes with further maturity.

@fillthythoughts @Catlawn You deviate from accepted and general inherent morality on such an undeniable base level that it shows there should be no other reaction than a social immune response and anything you say to justify it is just a weapon you are using against the common good

Except, I am me, and then there's the preconceived opinion people have of me, which is totally different. If people didn't have a bias and there was no stigma perpetuated by social conformity and peer pressure, maybe they'd take the time to actually get to know me. The sad part is that there is a lot we likely agree on, but few people will allow themselves to get that far - and anyone who does interact with civility just gets dogpiled by the rest. Guilt by association, and all that. And they call me the irrational one.

@MothAccountant I don't know how else to explain it to you. I've stated exactly how it is written in the dsm, so if you cannot comprehend that then maybe this isn't the field of study for you.

@fillthythoughts You saying it's not a disorder while recognizing a section of it genuinely classifies as a disorder makes no sense, it is possible to be both. How can you not grasp that? Srs Gen
