Reference: A single F-35 costs USD 6-7 million per year to operate, initial cost per airframe is USD 85-110 million. J-20 is not built on a similar huge scale, but let's assume it costs USD 80 million and costs USD 4 million to operate per year. Then: 1. If they don't have any plans to export J-20 or a list of possible customers, then what's the point of making 120 planes in a year? 2. Can PLA Air Force absorb 60+ 5th Gen planes in a year or afford to operate them in such numbers? Creation of new infrastructure, training, and other costs add up quickly. 3. Where is any believable evidence of this expansion? Such a production rate should have observable signatures beyond satellite imagery of a factory and tail numbers. 4. Where are the pilots & ground crews coming from? Producing enough qualified fifth generation pilots and maintenance crews takes years. Has anyone seeing J-20 trainers in any of training facilities in such numbers? It's normal to see all sort of claims all the time. But there has to be some actual data to back up such assertions other than people relying on occasional photos and videos from Chinese state media.
