Yesterday we had a bunch of 15–16 year old boys over. I was in the kitchen while they were talking about how some schools on the island are participating in the anti-ICE protests today. One of them said, “I f*¢king love ICE.” I interrupted, “Language, boys.” He said, “Sorry, Auntie.” Later, he came up to me when no one else was around and said, “Can you not tell my mom what I said?” I asked, “About your swearing?” He said, “No, what I said about ICE.” That part stuck with me. Kids not worried about getting in trouble for vulgar language, but about having the “wrong” opinion. Strange times.
