Sad to hear that 103-yr-old RAF veteran, friend & fellow prisoner-of-war Harry Winter has died. Wireless Op Harry was badly injured when shot down in 1943 & narrowly escaped death on a number of occasions. RIP Harry; you served your nation with courage & dignity

Mercury is probably to faint to spot in the glare of the sky, as it's going to be quite light and a challenge to spot all of them except Jupiter. I shouldn't have jumped on the band wagon and joined in with the hysteria, but it get's everyone looking up.

Keep a look out for the planetary parade in the sky after sunset this weekend. Just after Sunset, look West to see Mercury, Venus and Saturn near the horizon, with Jupiter much higher overhead. No telescope needed. You only need your eyes!

It is 35 years since the UK Armed Forces played a major role in defeating the Iraqi military in the Gulf War. More than 53,000 British personnel fought courageously as part of a US-led coalition force to drive Saddam Hussein’s forces from Kuwait. 47 of their number would lose their lives in combat. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇬🇧

35 years ago today, 1991 Gulf War ended. We prisoners-of-war, confined in the horrendous Abu Ghraib, still faced some pretty brutal days before release, with reports we were dead. But we made it home, and tonight we gather to celebrate freedom and raise a glass to absent friends

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance. It’s about the people who hold you up when you’re at your lowest. The ones who stay when things get hard. The ones who see you at your worst and choose you anyway. For me, that’s my family. Love that’s steady, patient, and unconditional. Love that carried me through pain, recovery, and everything in between. I wouldn’t be here without it. Happy Valentine’s Day - however you define love 💙

Please retweet to help 19 year old Ebby find a home as her owner has passed away #UK Cinnamon Trust We are looking for a special someone to offer their heart and home to Ebby, who is looking for her Forever Fosterer. Ebby is a 19 year old, Irish Draught/Thoroughbred mare with a sweet, gentle nature. She is a lovely, well-mannered horse who is a pleasure to spend time with. She is 16.2 hands tall, mid-weight and is presently enjoying the gentle pace of semi-retired life. Currently Ebby is used to being turned out during the day and stabled at night, although she would almost certainly be happy to live out full‑time if the weather and ground conditions allowed. She thrives with equine company and has also lived happily alongside sheep, goats, alpacas, and even a donkey. She is truly not fussy when it comes to the shape, size, or species of friend! Ebby is confident hacking alone, but she does not like being left behind, so she would be best suited to life with a fully retired companion or with a small, calm herd where she can enjoy having plenty of friends around. Over the past year, Ebby has only been ridden very lightly – just the occasional gentle hack. She can be prone to being spooked at times and is sensitive to loud noises. So she would need a nice long period to gain some trust and confidence in new surroundings. Prior to 2017, she enjoyed some low‑level eventing and dressage, and with patient, sympathetic handling, she could be brought back into light work as her fitness improves, and the rust is shaken loose. Ebby is currently barefoot with lovely healthy feet and receives regular trims, which she behaves very well during. She was shod in the past when in more consistent work but has not needed her shoes in recent years. She does have sarcoids, but The Cinnamon Trust covers veterinary fees for the life of any pet in a forever foster home. So her ongoing care will be covered, and our Animal Welfare Team will always be on hand to offer advice or support to ensure a long and happy life together. Please, if you would like to learn more, call and speak to Charlotte on 01736 757 900 EXT. 201. Or email charlottedh@cinnamon.org.uk. Long ramble: I have been mulling if I should comment on President Trump's inane comments about NATO involvement in Afghanistan. Although 35 years ago, during the US-led first Gulf War, I was lying, handcuffed & blindfolded - literally 'shoulder to shoulder' - with a US colleague on a concrete floor in an Iraqi interrogation bunker, I rather feel it should be the current generation who express any anger at the President's ludicrous, demonstrably false utterings. Which is why I earlier shared some posts from others. But perhaps I will reflect like this - I watched Trump's press conference in the wake of the terrible tragedy when a US helicopter collided with a civilian airliner last January in disbelief. 64 people lost their lives but it seemed to be about him - his expertise, his knowledge, what he thought had happened. Much of what he said was incorrect. So I realised back then that it was going to be pointless trying to analyse any upcoming word-salads. Everything is clearly about him; his expertise in every subject, his grasp of all situations. His need to say something, anything, to show he is the best, the cleverest, the smartest, the most knowledgeable kid on the block. The pub-bore, the braggart, the know-it-all, pontificates on anything and everything in the hope of bolstering their own, clearly very low, self-esteem. I wonder that, in the President's mind, that it doesn't matter if what he says is factually correct? I wonder if he knows, understands, even cares, what is true? He is saying some words, which in his mind, seems to suggest that he's important and people will admire him, laud him. The fact that everyone around him then applauds this character trait, thanking him for his 'leadership' at every turn, just amplifies his desire, his need to continue. He's got want he wants - in his mind - attention, praise, admiration. So to sum up, trying to analyse Trump's ramblings is like trying to play chess with a pigeon. Somewhat interesting at first, but ultimately, truly pointless and rather frustrating. To those he has hurt, insulted, vilified, I send you my deepest condolences for your loss, and gratitude for your service.
