@ProctorZ Learning to mirror and copy what my peers did didnt change anything about me, I still feel like a feral animal compared to others but I forced myself to learn how to act in ways thats socially acceptable by everyone else's standards

@ProctorZ Best way I can describe my childhood is a feral animal that was let loose in a classroom and that feral animal had to learn how to "act" like normal kid by watching and mirroring the things they did, and figuring out what things felt natural to me but was uncomfortable for them

I was diagnosed with autism at a very young age. Then my parents took me out of the psychiatric system because they (correctly) saw that it was inadequate to my needs. Decades later I returned to the system for assistance with my ADHD, which I was also diagnosed with. It was there I first heard the phrase 'everyone is a little autistic'. I immediately rejected that framework. Everything I have been exposed to since then has reaffirmed that rejection. I would argue that in order to properly be diagnosed with autism, an individual must possess a fundamental, irreconcilable disconnect from 'normal' thought patterns. This disconnect is the equivalent of the disconnect between different computer operating systems, like Linux and Windows. As an autistic person blessed with significantly higher than average intelligence, I can reconcile this disconnect using the additional processing power said intelligence affords me. To me, 'neurotypical' thoughts are like running an emulator. Any autistic person with equivalent intelligence will understand what I mean instantly, because they share this disconnect. I often get people telling me in real life that they're impressed by how normal I seem or how well I integrate into society. They can't understand that it's all emulated behaviour. I don't find their ways normal or natural. I don't follow their thought processes or come to the same conclusions. They mistake adaptation and toleration for integration. This happens in every single aspect of my life, from my public interactions to my most private personal routines. Their 'normal' is what I instinctively consider borderline incomprehensible madness. It takes great effort and processing power to run their programs on my hardware, because we are neurologically different on an irreconcilable level. If someone who has been labelled autistic ever thinks to themselves 'oh, I get it at last' or 'it all makes sense now!' or 'it's getting easier to be normal' then they're not autistic. They're not a Linux machine running a Windows emulator, they're a Windows 10 PC downloading the Windows 11 update. They're quirky or eccentric or just poorly socialized due to upbringing or environment. They're. Not. Autistic.
