The value of #renewables extends well beyond costs. Existing renewable power also provides a crucial financial buffer in times of fossil fuel crisis. Across 20 major economies, accounting for 4/5 of the world’s generation, renewable power in 2025 avoided an estimated USD 377 billion in fossil-fuel purchases. The geographic distribution of economic benefits mirrors the concentration of renewables, check out @IRENA’s new report on Renewable Power Generation Costs ➡️ bit.ly/4b5k9it

The cost advantage of #renewables over fossil fuels continued to widen. In 2025, more than 90% of new renewable power added globally was already cheaper than the lowest-cost fossil-fuel alternatives. Conversely, for new gas-fired generation the combined-cycle costs rose in several markets as turbine demand exceeded manufacturing capacity. UN - renewables are the cheapest new power. They are also a prime geopolitical shock absorber, enhancing energy security and economic stability. A new report by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) estimates that more than 90% of the utility-scale renewable capacity added in 2025 was cheaper than the lowest-cost new fossil alternative. In total, installed renewables helped avoid an estimated USD 480 billion in fossil-fuel costs in 2025, turning renewables into a geopolitical shock absorber against fossil-volatile systems in energy crisis. As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said: “The good news is – unlike every past energy crisis – we now have a clear way out. A clean way out. Renewables are the cheapest, fastest and most scalable source of new electricity in most of the world.” Full report here: irena.org/Publications/2…

OUT NOW! New report confirms the cost advantage of #renewables over fossil fuels. Renewables remained the cheapest source of new #electricity in most markets in 2025 while costs of fossil-generation continued to rise. In addition to technology, financing remains a key driver of generation #costs. Increasingly, it matters more where a project is built than what is built: national conditions explain around 2.3 times as much variation in financing costs as technology, finds @IRENA’s new 'Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2025' report 👉 irena.org/Publications/2…
