The time you spend now learning how to create entertaining content while talking to yourself is exactly how every let's player grew up. It's how the big streamers keep their content entertaining when it's physically impossible to even keep up with their chats. It's an extremely valuable skill you will need at all points of your content career.

You want to buy a premade model? Do it. You want to buy someone’s model? Do it. You want to pick apart a design from an adopt? Do it. You want to change stuff that is in the adopt TOS to fit your personality? Do it. You want to be the exact image of an adopt? Do it. Not everyone has the same creative process. Sometimes it takes multiple models to figure out what you want. Premade, adoptable, rehomed, they are all valid ways to start or continue your vtuber journey. As someone with ADHD, brain injury with impaired memory and trauma, I have a hard time deciding and executive functions (and more but I digress). It is hard for some people to design a model. Even with artist help, it can still not feel like you. I’ve had constant 3+ ideas or designs fighting each other. I can’t decide. It is extremely stressful and mentally exhausting to the point of shutting down to come up with a design especially when new to a space. Not everyone can just list things they like or put them together easily. For some it is even a daily struggle and mental war to decide on what to eat for each meal. Yes, this is me. And probably many others. Be a vtuber. Be nice. Don’t be afraid of change. But most importantly, don’t let others make the path you take seem less valid or stupid. Unless, you are legally or ethically violating rules. Just in case someone wants to argue that point. I adopted Calamarei and am her first owner. The design was simple and I could easily do anything with her. Two whole years later and I am finally comfortable getting a personalized version of Calamarei. I have also been an Oni and a redesign of that Oni. I’ve adopted designs I planned to go through with that were resold or just another adopt. I have created content for 5 years and 2 years as a vtuber. It is hard. Designing is hard. Figuring out what you want is hard. If you don’t struggle that is okay! But please remember before bashing on people going with adopts or resold models, not everyone can be creative or personalize themselves as easy as others.

Seeing interesting commission price discourse on the timeline. As a video editor I can say I've never charged any individual more than half what my time was actually worth. Usually FAR less than that. I can't speak for artists, but here's how I usually think of price:
