@andrewpprice @chris_saturn Even though the models become cheaper with time, it doesn't change the fact that the majority of AI companies are currently operating at a massive loss. OpenAI is for example projected to loose billions annually - so for now at least, it's an expensive business model

I've heard this from many artists but it's false. Every new model is expensive at first, but then the models are tweaked to be more efficient. Then next-gen hardware increases it further. If anything, it's likely some won't make any profit because a cheaper model will always be good enough.

Are you more or less worried about AI today than you were 6 months ago? Personally feeling like we're starting to see its limitations and how it is not the end-all be-all for artists.

@LinrisB There'll almost certainly be a lot of CEO's demanding more for less now because you can "just make it with AI". But hoping to see more, smaller independent studios make it onto the scene as a result of this. There'll always be people appreciating good art.

@FlippedNormals I've never been worried about GenAi, I've only been worried about CEO's overestimating its capabilities an undervaluing people.

@SimovicVlada Good point. I can easily see it creating a new generation of "nightmare clients" demanding more for less because "you can just create it with AI" - it may take a while to find the balance there

@FlippedNormals It is integrated in workflows, but it's not a replacement. I am worried about clients being brainwashed. I had few experiences with big brands this year where they asked for AI. More content, less quality. They showed me examples of approved work, that was unacceptable before.

@Eatthemupm This is exactly it. Mostly seeing it being used to create crappy content faster than ever which surely can't be a sustainable business model.

@FlippedNormals The problem is, that instead of being used as a tool, to make work better, its being used in most crappy, easy way, especially in advertaising, because most people just dont care

@DaGreenGh0st @IsThisA3DModel I think greedy companies will do anything and everything to maximise profit and cut corners. But I also hope a result of that could be many more independent, smaller studios making it onto the scene

@FlippedNormals @IsThisA3DModel Haven't been worried about it replacing people in terms of skill but I still have concerns that greedy companies will use it to cut corners

@BryanNHolt Agreed. Sometimes it can be useful for those little technical quality of life improvements which is nice as it frees up space to be creative

@FlippedNormals Exactly. And i went all in. 0 time saved in what I do. But there are areas of my own freelance pipeline I have been able to patch up. The tools I have been able to create have been incredible. That's the weapon. I am the artist.

@Crazyfool28 Yes. If a 100% AI generated movie came out, no matter how amazing, I genuinely think most people would refuse to watch it simply because it was made by AI.

@FlippedNormals It’s banned in most studios, no matter how many articles they pay for to say otherwise. And the public perception of it is lowering by the day.

@chris_saturn Not sure about the pricing. Many of the AI companies are currently operating at a huge loss atm. Historically speaking the cost of services and subscriptions across the tech industry has also only gone up.

@FlippedNormals Bear this in mind. Today's LLMs (AI) are the worst they will ever be. Costs will drop and offline models will become more widely available. youtube.com/shorts/lMz9_YN…

@adriflex Agreed! In many ways it's like an accelerator. The taste level, art direction and ideas has to come from the artist.

@FlippedNormals Much less worried, indeed. I tend to think that AI will only be good when used as a tool, not to replace an artist.

@MR3Dev That's great to hear. It feels like the general AI-anxiety amongst artists is on a decline

@FlippedNormals The more I use it the less worried I am. I work on 3D tho, I don't know about other subjects.
