Israel's ambassador to the UN ducks a question about why Israel is the only Middle East nation allowed to have nuclear weapons by claiming that Israel, as it bombs countries left and right, is a "stabilizing force in the region."

@hillarytaylorvi @USEmbassyUganda The irony of that reply appears to have escaped you... do please point out exactly where I’ve misunderstood something. Or just run off like a badly paid NRM bot, that’s cool too

Good point academically, but we both know who "they" are in this context. Mapped onto the real world, death by itself is not the victory, but death in service of a political or religious cause is. "They would just suicide and win" is a category error, that’s explicitly forbidden.

@floatingpointz @LifeMathMoney @sahandy89 i understand "if one of us escalates, we both die" thinking, i disagree it leads to "i kill us both and win" if death was really victory they would just suicide and win, but they dont, which means there are better victories available. positive sum agreements can be found

The Piers Morgan vs Prof Marandi clip making rounds is a good sorting mechanism. If you think Marandi owned Piers in that exchange, you are either dumb, uneducated, or so badly educated the difference barely matters

@vanjajaja1 @LifeMathMoney @sahandy89 My tweet is about deterrence, and you’re still misunderstanding the equilibrium bro. It’s not about leverage in the sense of "I will kill you"… it’s "if one of us escalates, we both die". If one actor treats death as victory, it becomes: "I kill us both and win"

@floatingpointz @LifeMathMoney @sahandy89 your initial tweet sounded like disagreement, but wasn't and yes, if "i will kill you" was leverage used for better outcomes then not having it will give worse outcomes. the "toy models" continue functioning

Natif says Ug is "live and let live", that Ugandans love their gay friends the same and don’t really care. @hillarytaylorvi points him to hundreds of openly homophobic comments, instead of defending the claim he immediately runs to: "I think you and I are having totally different arguments and I really don’t wanna spend more time on it." Just a spineless retreat the second reality shows up, every single time. Y’all let him off too easy

@TonyNatif "I don’t seek to minimize the LGBTQIA experience especially in a country like Uganda." 🤔🤔🤔 yet that is exactly what you have been doing these couple of days. ~~~~ discounting lived experiences. minimising as 'overdramatised' rubbishing statistics not supporting you.

I think you and I are having totally different arguments and I really don’t wanna spend more time on it. I don’t seek to minimize the LGBTQIA experience especially in a country like Uganda. I simply say that the reports as portrayed in western media don’t necessarily reflect the reality on the ground. Uganda is a quasi conservative country. Very rarely if ever do people actually live their conservative pretense. This also applies to how they treat the gay community. They’ve lived side by side with them for eons. And now to current times; do I think the law is great? Absolutely not. Is it really being implemented extensively? Nope. Should it be scraped? Yes. But to try and use politics of hate to paint an entire populace as pitchfork carrying, “kill the gay” vigilantes is patently absurd and might actually hurt your cause. That’s my point. How you take that is entirely up to you.
justice hunter 🇺🇬🇺🇸@hillarytaylorvi

your “live and let live” approach cannot exist under criminalization. colonial laws and power structures, not the ugandan culture police sexuality, producing fear, silence, and violence despite some surface tolerance. forget the elite ugandans you know & try to pay attention just on the online homophobia & tell us if that’s not a huge concern. you can alternatively you me as a case study on just this one post, x.com/hillarytaylorv…, then imagine the magnitude of hate we receive daily just because of who we are or love. we can’t gaslight bigotry depending on who we know or associate with

@floatingpointz @LifeMathMoney @sahandy89 look up, youre in a conversation about whether you can play game theory with people who think they win if they die but yeah people who genuinely dont care about dying wouldnt be affected by avoiding mutual destruction which is key to current nuclear strategy discussions

@vanjajaja1 @LifeMathMoney @sahandy89 Where did I say deterrence is a requirement for game theory? I spoke about the deterrence equilibrium that modern nuclear stability depends on. Build toy models with suicidal actors if you want, no disagreement there

Nope..even in plain English "effective" still doesn’t fit. A bracket only ever has a marginal rate, not an effective one. Saying "effectively 40% for that bracket" implies those dollars are taxed in isolation, when the income below is also taxed at lower rates. It’s simply the wrong word :)
