@tomlbutler @levelsio Partially sovereign but there have been bad choices made recently making this less true
For example yes we have 70% of our energy from nuclear, it should be cheap but it’s not because we follow the EU rules & market: it depends on natural gas price and makes it expensive here
English

Everyone likes to shit on France.
But after the US, it's probably the most "sovereign" Western country.
It’s the only one that can independently:
- Project military power globally
- Design and build its own nuclear weapons
- Operate nuclear submarines + aircraft carrier
- Produce its own fighter jets, missiles, tanks, warships - Launch into space (via @ArianeGroup)
- Generate 70% of its electricity from nuclear power
The UK is close capability-wise, but are far more reliant on American systems (e.g. F-35, Trident missiles).

Anthropic ran their entire marketing operation with one person.
$380 billion company.
Paid search. Paid social. SEO. Email. App stores.
One non-technical hire doing all of it — for 10 months.
I pulled it apart.
Compared it to every system we've built across the clients we've worked with.
Then asked myself one question:
If I had to reverse engineer this from scratch — what would it actually look like?
Turns out the architecture isn't that complicated.
I mapped the whole thing into a 47-page PDF you can upload directly to any LLM.
It coaches you through building your own version step by step.
Comment "marketing" and I'll send it over.

@benjamincrozat @SimonHoiberg Hahaaa yes exactly we like to complain 😂
But in France when talking business I feel people are often finding the downsides instead of pushing forward and motivating others
English

@florian_cht @SimonHoiberg Damn, being positive is the worse, haha. Clearly not something we (French people) are used to.
English

@benjamincrozat @SimonHoiberg Restaurants still open after 9pm, shops opened on Sunday, people working, people having other hobbies than mountain, risk-taking, talking about business, and being positive
English

@Liathetrader @SimonHoiberg I’m afraid to feel the exact same when visiting. I’m French but I want to live in a more positive & risk-taking culture. My gf and I are looking for Miami, Austin or San Diego, they all 3 seem perfect for us
It’s more a matter of visa
English

@florian_cht @SimonHoiberg Extremely boring. I tried Zurich, Zug, Luzern, Biel/Neuchattel, Bern, all so boring. And people are so unfriendly. Even in the French part even worse.
English

@ArunDrall10 @SimonHoiberg Ohhh seems great! I planned to visit Zurich & Lausanne this spring to see if we could live here with my gf & our dog 😃
We’re hesitating with the USA for the hustling energy, we need to compare both
English

@florian_cht @SimonHoiberg Annecy is the 'pause button,' while Switzerland is 'high performance mode.' Here, the surface appears tranquil, yet beneath lies extraordinary global efficiency. It's not dull it simply hides its ambition beneath a tidy exterior. 🏙️🚀

@Globalstats11 Shouldn’t Singapore & Switzerland be way higher than France?

I also think Switzerland is the winner in Europe, but I’m still hesitating regarding the high cost of living and the need to speak German.
I was looking for Zurich so of course it’s the most expensive but it seems the best for safety + dynamism.
It is ok not to speak German but only English there?
English

I'd say Switzerland is the clear winner here. That's whay I've been recommending my Dutch friends.
Low income taxes.
No (or super little) capital gains taxes.
Wealth taxes, but you need to be loaded, and it's still very low.
Culturally very similar.
Language (German) will be easy to learn.
I'd say Switzerland with UAE as a solid second (I agree, UAE is clean and easy, it wins here).
English

Dutch exodus: I've been talking with multiple Dutch people considering relocating.
Realistically, for 80% it's either UAE or somewhere else in Europe. Latin America is too far for many.
My take: UAE is the cleanest exit. 0% income tax, 0% capital gains. Direct flights, massive expat network, world-class infrastructure. And the UAE will keep growing.
The second approach is to optimise within Europe. This is what more people actually choose. Many want to stay close to family, don't want the cultural shift; some families simply won't do it.
There are plenty of tax-optimised options with good international schools.
The first ones that come to mind:
🇨🇾 Cyprus: 0% on foreign dividends, interest & capital gains for 17 years. 60-day rule. Best non-dom regime still standing. 15% corporate tax, plus all considerations from my recent post.
🇲🇹 Malta: evergreen. The non-dom lasts forever. Foreign capital gains always 0%. English-speaking. Though it's a small place, not for everyone.
🇨🇭 Switzerland: no capital gains tax. Lump-sum tax regimes available upon negotiation, for high net worth. Overall, the "stability play."
Italy, Greece & Portugal also have special regimes, as you know well since I write about these constantly.
Perhaps I'm biased because the people who DM me are already interested in Italy, but I'm surprised how many are considering Italy specifically; not necessarily for the flat tax, but for the 50% income exemption (impatriati regime).
What else?

@intellectronica @code @GitHubCopilot @opencode @claudeai Not getting exactly what skills are for, can I use a skill to get Claude Code generate better frontend UX?

I am no longer using _any_ MCP servers in my local setup [ @code / @GitHubCopilot, @opencode, @claudeai code ].

English

@iLoung18 @SimonHoiberg @hispanicnomad Agreed, that’s one of the reasons we left Spain (Valencia). We’re looking at Zurich or Lausanne instead!
English

@SimonHoiberg @hispanicnomad **without basic andalú. Depending on your chances, some andaluces accent is even challenging for native Spanish
English

Countries by "how much Spanish actually helps you" 👇
GAME CHANGER:
🇵🇾 Paraguay: Almost nobody speaks English
🇪🇨 Ecuador: Same deal
🇧🇴 Bolivia: You're lost without Spanish
🇨🇴 Colombia: English exists but Spanish opens everything
🇵🇪 Peru: Tourist zones have English, everywhere else doesn't
HELPFUL BUT NOT ESSENTIAL:
🇲🇽 Mexico: Depends heavily on the city
🇦🇷 Argentina: Most speak some English in cities
🇺🇾 Uruguay: English more common than you'd think
🇨🇷 Costa Rica: Tourism killed the need for Spanish
BARELY MATTERS:
🇪🇸 Spain: Everyone speaks English (except old people)
🇨🇱 Chile: You won't understand them anyway
