I liked the days when Labor gave a fuck about "the battlers". You just proved that they now care about the elites only. And by the way, the Govt has already increased their take significantly through GST payments on higher prices. Also, getting the budget in order with unemployment rising as a result of lay-offs and reduced spending due to price increases and lower demand for ancilliary items will fuck the budget more. They are already laying off apprentices now because of fuel cost increases and the impact low fuel is having on supply of equipment.

The nut jobs are out in force suggesting the govt reduce or eliminate to petrol excise for a period of time to reduce the retail price of petrol. This would be one of the worst policy ideas doing the rounds. It costs billions of dollars making it harder to get the budget to balance. It stimulates demand adding to inflation at a time when inflation is too high. It make the petrol shortage - to the extent there is one - even worse as people keep driving & don't look for alternatives.
