@dvorstone With all due respect not certain whether you are praising or somewhat dissing with the “weird” and “no I would never live there” kind of remarks, wondering if they were absolutely necessary, or perhaps inserted intentionally for a purpose

I don't think the Japanese realize what a special people they are. Yes, they have their problems. Their culture comes with a punitive psychological toll. However, their virtues make them almost undeniably the most welcome guests on the planet. If you had to pick a house guest or a tourist, it's hard to imagine one better than the Japanese. Their cultural output is fascinating, weird, beautiful, and interesting. Their country is correspondingly fascinatingly, weird, beautiful, and interesting. Would I want to live in Japan? No. As an American, it's just not my home and I wouldn't be happy being there permanently. However, as a friend? For cultural and economic exchange? For military and geopolitical alliance? Hell yeah. They're trustworthy, cool, respectful, honorable, and hardcore like few others in history. The Japanese know how to COMMIT. The know excellence. They are ride or die. Sure, they have their own agenda. We'll have conflicts and disagreements. They're no lapdog. They're our peer; the only peer we have left. That's what the Japanese need to understand. They're our only equal, and we love them.

@RobProvince In Japan the culture of photo/video posting where ordinary users upload image files to SNS services to share wholesome photos/videos like these originally begun in the early to mid-2000s, around 2004-2006, so it’s been a part of everyone’s lives for over 2 decades now

@redheadranting There is a clear divide, but only on the internet, x in particular. Majority is moderate conservative, worried about the economy and immigration. More radical rights and lefts are very loud on the internet fighting against each other, but both are a minority.

Now that we're dialed in to Japan Twitter I need to know if the Japanese are divided politically like Americans? Do the Japanese cut off friends and family for having different beliefs like we do in America?

@TobyTurner @player_panther Yes I can imagine how people have gone overboard to your frustration with the PC concept which I am not a big fan of either but there has to be some moderation and minimum respect especially when we are witnessing two distinct cultures getting back together so many decades after.

no I think you just treat them as equals and don’t hold hate in the communication can’t baby people based on the idea that words can have hate built into them without intent In America we’ve bullied people who weren’t even intentionally insulting anyone - got teachers fired for dressing up in Mexican outfits when it doesn’t even actually offend Mexicans we got rid of Aunt Jemima’s photo from syrup because racists think that it is offensive to give a nod to black culture in america we’re over the PC stuff

@TobyTurner @player_panther Yes I can understand the ideology but I find it overly idealistic at this stage unless everyone is a newborn baby. For now at least, one needs to understand and relate to the experiences and sentiments of the victims to which fortunately the world is currently centric towards.

@fm22858 @player_panther just my belief - treat people as equal saying things like "idiot" or "stupid" or "evil" or "I hate you" are actually offensive decent people can say whatever they want, freedom of speech is the most important freedom slurs are bullshit, weaponized to divide

@TobyTurner @player_panther You may have a point in an ideal fresh new world if you leave out the part about human history and unforgettable memories and teachings of the past.

@fm22858 @player_panther racial slurs are only offensive to racists who believe other races aren’t equal they believe ‘oh this group is actually inferior, so the word has truth’ decent people speak to others as equals.

@whathellob95702 @Whatscookinginj @signulll One angle would be the excessively strong social pressure or praise towards “winning” in life. The frequently used American term “loser” does not really have a place in the Japanese language

japan is a fascinating experiment of a society that simultaneously has some of the most ridiculously extreme public decorum norms on earth & some of the most interesting anon content along with it. they may have optimized so hard for social conformity & reduced coexistence friction that they inadvertently built a culture where the authentic self has nowhere to go except underground. perhaps not having kids is prolly another form of this too.

@signulll Considering the vast difference in historical depth and overall social stability of today US is clearly more of the social experiment that the rest of the world is observing and monitoring. Lastly, birth rate decline is not unique to Japan publichealth.jhu.edu/2026/is-the-us…

We need to understand the Japan is under permanent occupation of US, their constitution is written by American generals and not a single word has changed in that. Their children has been brain washed to beleive that their ancestors were really bad people who wanted to harm the world and it's Americans who saved them by dropping bombs. I see similar mindset in India as well even though India is sovereign country. Me and my kids were also thought wrong history about Turks and Mughals, only difference is that my parents taught me right history at home and I am doing same with my kids. It's our duty to bring our kids back to our culture.

A reporter once asked a 92-year-old Japanese man: “Do Japanese people still hate Americans because of the nuclear attacks?” You must listen to this old man’s reply: That reply reveals the mindset that rebuilt Japan after the nuclear attacks.

@LizzyStarrrdust On a serious note, one should never forget those horrifying events and their sad outcomes to make sure they are never repeated in future, but there is no point in blaming or hating people of today who had nothing to do with them. In that sense I believe people are all cool.

Japanese friends, y'all are hilarious. It's nice to finally see so many of you. If you're over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we're over Pearl harbor. Water under the bridge. Let's have a BBQ and talk shit on all the shithole countries. They wish they were as cool as us. 💅🏼
