For the longest time, I thought being productive meant sitting at my desk for hours and forcing myself to “lock in.”
2-hour sessions.
No breaks.
Pure discipline.
At least… that’s what I thought.
But the reality was very different.
After ~30 minutes, my focus would completely crash. And instead of doing meaningful work, I’d spend the next hour fighting my own attention just to stay on task.
What surprised me the most was realizing that the problem wasn’t laziness.
It was distraction patterns I wasn’t even aware of.
For example:
just having my phone somewhere in my field of view was enough to constantly pull my attention away, even without touching it.
So I started experimenting:
• removing distractions from my workspace
• keeping a cleaner environment
• working in shorter focused sprints instead of exhausting marathon sessions
And honestly… it changed everything.
The more I paid attention to my habits, the more I realized how much of my time was disappearing into unconscious browsing and tiny distractions throughout the day.
That realization eventually led me to build Focus Companion.
• Not another aggressive productivity app.
• Not a tool that blocks everything and treats you like a machine.
I wanted something calmer:
a browser (extension) companion that helps you understand your daily and weekly browsing habits, recognize distractions, and become more intentional with your attention.
• Simple insights.
• Minimal friction.
• No overwhelming system.
Because sometimes the first step toward better productivity isn’t forcing yourself to work harder.
It’s finally understanding where your attention actually goes.
