I think the comparison isn’t Alex Otti vs Dapo Abiodun. It is Alex Otti and previous administrations in Aba . It is about what Alex Otti is doing now that no before him was able to do . We can appreciate Dapo Abiodun on his own and also celebrate the progress seen under Otti .
Bolaji Fesomade@MasterBolaji

Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has constructed about 1,650 km of roads. Alex Otti of Abia State has around 240 km to his name. Yet, some people still believe the one with 240 km is performing better than the one with 1,650 km.

Lagos State wanted to detach Lagos State from the power grid under Governor Bola Tinubu and Enron, but the FGN stopped him FGN also stopped Rivers and Akwa-Ibom Abia State lucked out with GEJ and Bart Nnaji and got an early start. Now that laws have been amended, States can exercise power. It should have happened from 1999 Nigeria can't run a single national grid; it's too inefficient Regarding the Discos, they should own the grids and buy and sell power on their terms. This “nationalisation” of everything does not allow for business efficiency How can power be generated in Bayelsa and transmitted all the way to Yobe I know nothing about power, happy to be educated

.@alexottiofr: Our vision on electricity is to detach Abia from the national grid... my commissioner for power is currently in The Netherlands negotiating that

@abanaunimke @FinPlanKaluAja1 Loool, you are the one without knowledge, seek knowledge before disgracing yourself. Nigerias electricity comes majorly from gas, Nigeria’s gas reserves are Imo, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Edo, with Imo Anambra, Abia, Ondo. Decentralization gives them a headstart.

@graciousT2323 @KKenttimo @FinPlanKaluAja1 My bro/Sis! You won’t get money to invest in a parallel distribution network at state level, when a single policy can improve the situation at the national level. The problem is political and can only be solved politically.

Redundancy shouldn’t be a thing if there’s already lack of adequate infrastructure, and this deficit creates an opening. Privately owned by discos do not prevent other private companies or even states from weighing in. The distribution infrastructure could be rented, upgraded, negotiated, if all hands is on deck with federal support. Moreover states can now dictate their own pricing to the FG.

@folucomms @FinPlanKaluAja1 If you do captive power plants in various locations across Abia state, you don't need Transmission infrastructure again. Generate and distribute to consumers in your captive area

@graciousT2323 @KKenttimo @FinPlanKaluAja1 The existing Distribution network which has taken years to build is privately owned by discos. If you as a politician wants to recreate the network, no one would fund because it creates redundancy, and you wont finish setting up a distribution network before your term ends.

@folucomms @KKenttimo @FinPlanKaluAja1 But now as a state! Couldn’t you refurbish existing infrastructure, generate and distribute and also set pricing yourself? Sometimes even using the discos on a percentage? What is the private sector waiting for to jump in this opportunity? Or is there none ?

@folucomms @FinPlanKaluAja1 This is where energy mix comes in. For the north, it should be a hydro and solar powered systems.

@KKenttimo @ashogbon1 @FinPlanKaluAja1 Toh! That is why I said the problem is more Political than practical. Abia state is benefiting because Obasanjo decoupled the Aba ring fence from the national grid since it’s designated as an industrial zone.

@ashogbon1 @folucomms @FinPlanKaluAja1 My point is,the country must create a buy back facility or debt sharing with States The DISCOs must give a detailed debt analysis of each state Any state that is willing to start Distribution should either buy parts of the debt and take over. We can have an AMCON like entity 1/2

@E_ustace @FinPlanKaluAja1 At the moment, that is really expensive and more technical to manage compared to gas turbines, so I think they believe it gives other region an advantage.

@graciousT2323 @KKenttimo @FinPlanKaluAja1 The middle man between the generation and the distribution is what is insufficient (The grid), which is controlled by TCN (Government) because it’s classified as a national security asset. The grid is centralized & old and when too much power goes into it, it fails.

@folucomms @KKenttimo @FinPlanKaluAja1 So is it that there’s no infrastructure to take the power to people’s houses ? Or most areas in Nigeria doesn’t not have these infrastructure? Because I can guarantee that everywhere in Lagos has this infrastructure but why aren’t they experiencing steady power supply?

@KKenttimo @FinPlanKaluAja1 They have paid for the Distribution infrastructure, which is needed to take power generated to people’s house. That is the problem.

@folucomms @FinPlanKaluAja1 At this point, states must exit the DISCOs in their state This system is suffocating everyone and yet it keeps getting bad. How can Lagos have 2 DISCO SW has 1 DISCO And you want electricity to improve when the Distribution chain is broke DISCOs that are not ready, should handsoff

@Ezeudubobpete @FinPlanKaluAja1 Primary Sources of Nigeria Power comes from Natural gas plants (77–86%) and Hydropower (17–22%), that makes the majority of power generation come from SS/SE because of the Natural gas fields and capacity they have.

@FinPlanKaluAja1 The solution to the power issue in Nigeria is more Political than Practical, The Energy Act should allow states to not only Generate, but to Transmit and distribute their power without being at the mercy of DISCOs who do not really care.

@FinPlanKaluAja1 I also got to know that the North is at a disadvantage because most Power Generation capacities come from SE and SS with a dedicated feeder to SW especially Lagos (Transmission also). The North has then fought against the decentralization of power Gen and Transmission.
