Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy alleges the NBA instructed officials to call more fouls in Kobe Bryant’s favor during a playoff series
“I’ll never forget when Kobe was in a playoff series with the Phoenix Suns.”
“They called one defender the ‘Kobe Stopper.’”
“They showed us video from previous games.”
“They pointed out plays where they said fouls were missed.”
“They told us, ‘Make sure you don’t let this happen tonight.’”
“‘Make sure you call this when it happens.’”
“They wanted freedom of movement.”
“They wanted Kobe Bryant to have the ability to score more points.”
“They would train officials before the next game based on those clips.”
These are allegations made by former NBA referee Tim Donaghy and have been disputed by the NBA.

As of today, the Nets are the 13th or 14th best team in the East. Floor is 15th seed and ceiling is 11th seed. That’s not critique, the Nets shouldn’t rush — they have two 20 year olds in the back court — but simply the reality. A realistic goal is the play-in in 2027-2028 and a top-6 seed in 2028-2029.

So let’s look at this Jaylen Brown trade…
The 76ers are never getting rid of Joel Embiid on this deal. So might as well make the most of the combo of Maxey, VJ, and Embiid.
For the Celtics, Paul George can opt into his PO next season, and will be a massive expiring that Boston can flip in a deal to acquire a massive piece alongside Jayson Tatum. And they got 2 firsts out of it.
I think Boston wins this trade in the end because of how I feel about the FO and what I think Brad Stevens can do with PG’s contract and assets to make the next move. But Jaylen Brown is the exact type of wing this 76ers team needs to at least try and win.
