Just saw another round of “silos are good, actually” going around. They aren’t. Yes, people should be empowered to do their jobs without needing a posse of people and a thousand consensus meetings to do it. But that’s not why silos are a problem in technology.

I don't actually think line managers should ever "stop teching" -- too much of their credibility and capacity for excellence is bound up in subject mastery. There's a big difference between "stop teching" and "your primary deliverables are no longer technical ones". HUGE.

@mipsytipsy At what point do you stop "teching”? In the military I had senior leaders flying to varying degrees. Junior officers or “managers” are often operators in their skill sets and still practice as they lead. The all-in on “people” management seems strange.

Love seeing @Cloudflare continue to demonstrate security best practices and hate to see @okta getting called out again. I love the promise of @okta and @auth0 but at a minimum expect their communication about these incidents to be proactive

It is esp curious when non-lawyer is used in conjunction with such unexceptional experience, as though the term itself makes one exceptional.
