@uthmanzi it takes a long time and a lot of struggle but in the end, it’s actually not the struggle that accomplishes it, something more like letting go

Comparative historical speed run of "the illusion of separation". What if you aren't a separate person? What if all is one, and your "You", self, ego is just an illusion? Crazy...or not? lfg 🚀 🧵

@uthmanzi at the birth of your first child you could be busy distracted thinking about work or you could show up and be present. It’s the same event either way, but its meaning depends on participation. It’s like that

@uthmanzi meaning is to some degree made by participating with things, it isn’t found. So if you find better ways of participating/engaging yes it’s very meaningful

@uthmanzi but look also we're all rooted in reality & ego, and so this state is temporary. You get to visit, but to stay there permanently wouldn't even be good because we've got stuff to do, too. Both realities are true x.com/forthrighter/s…

You’re meant to be an agent in the world and this implies you need to be dissatisfied a good part of the time so you’ll find what needs to be improved and how. Happiness is a fleeting state, meaning is more durable

@uthmanzi it's like, "what will my death do to the process of geology?" well ... nothing actually. The two things just coexist and everything will be fine the trick of the ego is that *I* am completely indispensible! I'm the only me that's ever existed! Unique! Special!

Re “body scanning”: I think too reifying, of body and ultimately “attention” itself. There’s no complete/gapless/continuous/platonic set of pixels/voxels to be found/uncovered, “if only u were a better body scanner.” Body map can, somewhat indirectly, be ***VERY*** improved/unsnarled over thousands of hours, but it’s ever-always fluid like honey and resists conception, and continually prioritizes & deprioritizes local resolution under global constraint.

Ageing people should know that their lives are not mounting and expanding, but that an inexorable inner process enforces the contraction of life. For a young person it is almost a sin, or at least a danger, to be too preoccupied with himself; but for the ageing person it is a duty and a necessity to devote serious attention to himself. After having lavished its light upon the world, the sun withdraws its rays in order to illuminate itself. Instead of doing likewise, many old people prefer to be hypochondriacs, pedants, applauders of the past or else eternal adolescents—all lamentable substitutes for the illumination of the self, but inevitable consequences of the delusion that the second half of life must be governed by the principles of the first. I said just now that we have no schools for forty-year-olds. That is not quite true. Our religions were always such schools in the past, but how many people regard them like that today ? How many of us older ones have been brought up in such a school and really prepared for the second half of life, for old age, death and eternity? - CARL JUNG
