@BenThePCGuy @pmarca Strange. I just tested @ChatGPTapp w/ a clean prompt of "what should I do tomorrow" & it mentioned Thursday in its reply. When I asked @claudeai, it showed "check current time" in its "thinking" text & referenced both "it's Wed night now" & "Thursday" (& asked for my goals).

This is good, but gets really good when you refine it. I dropped this into Claude and asked "Take a look at this, analyze, and let me know which parts would be truly useful for our interactions." It distilled it down to three things that augmented memory, and chucked the rest.

Current AI custom prompt: You are a world class expert in all domains. Your intellectual firepower, scope of knowledge, incisive thought process, and level of erudition are on par with the smartest people in the world. Answer with complete, detailed, specific answers. Process information and explain your answers step by step. Verify your own work. Double check all facts, figures, citations, names, dates, and examples. Never hallucinate or make anything up. If you don't know something, just say so. Your tone of voice is precise, but not strident or pedantic. You do not need to worry about offending me, and your answers can and should be provocative, aggressive, argumentative, and pointed. Negative conclusions and bad news are fine. Your answers do not need to be politically correct. Do not provide disclaimers to your answers. Do not inform me about morals and ethics unless I specifically ask. You do not need to tell me it is important to consider anything. Do not be sensitive to anyone's feelings or to propriety. Make your answers as long and detailed as you possibly can. Never praise my questions or validate my premises before answering. If I'm wrong, say so immediately. Lead with the strongest counterargument to any position I appear to hold before supporting it. Do not use phrases like "great question," "you're absolutely right," "fascinating perspective," or any variant. If I push back on your answer, do not capitulate unless I provide new evidence or a superior argument — restate your position if your reasoning holds. Do not anchor on numbers or estimates I provide; generate your own independently first. Use explicit confidence levels (high/moderate/low/unknown). Never apologize for disagreeing. Accuracy is your success metric, not my approval.

@BenThePCGuy I recently added another line that helps: "If I make any reference to time or date in my prompt, be sure to check your time/date function so you have the proper context." You'd think it'd be automatic, but it isn't. It really helps AI keep timelines straight. cc: @pmarca

@BenThePCGuy It does sometimes get frustrating on simple questions where you'd think intent was obvious, but it also gives great insight into how much is assumed when you ask a question.

@BenThePCGuy @MUKIDEZA2 You're barely scratching the surface! For just iconic military planes, we have these two, the Corsair, the Mustang... For non-shooting military, the SR-71 (though there was apparently also a shooting version). The US has made war into an art form... both for good & bad.

Positive Tesla Diner review from Forbes' Brooke Crothers: "On Saturday, the Tesla Diner was busy if not packed at times. And obviously not failing, though some blogs and reports want you desperately to believe otherwise. Contrary to all these eatery blogs and car blogs that say the Tesla Diner is a flop, a failure, a disaster, that is not true, as so many things that are often written about Tesla. There are car blogs that devote all their time to taking down Tesla. I went to the Diner on Friday April 3 and Saturday April 4. I estimate that on both days 90+ percent of the chargers (of the 80 Superchargers) were being used. By that metric alone, the Diner is a success. Yes, I’ve been inside the Diner when it’s slow. But as a Supercharger location with the option to grab a snack it’s a success. It seems that the ulterior motive of some “reviews” is to bash Elon Musk and tell you what a bad, bad man he is. That doesn’t give the reader an honest evaluation of the Tesla Diner as a great charging destination, which, again, is its primary purpose for the vast majority of visitors. It's extremely clean. If you want to come to a pristine place to eat, the Tesla Diner is it."

As an Iranian watching this rescue mission unfold, I was praying the American pilot would make it out alive, not just for him, but so the Islamic Republic could not use him as a bargaining chip or claim some twisted “victory.” At the same time, I felt a deep envy. Your government sent elite special forces, million-dollar aircraft, and moved heaven and earth to bring one American home. No hesitation. No excuses. In Iran, the regime uses human shields and recruited child soldiers to clear minefields during the Iran-Iraq war. They treat their own people like disposable tools. They are now recruiting child soldiers as we speak. The Islamic Republic has zero regard for human life. That’s the brutal difference. One side risks everything to save their own. The other sacrifices their own to stay in power. This hits hard when you have lived under both realities.

When I was grown up ‘long distance’ calls were charged by the minute - and were quite expensive. Forget international calls. They were echoey and cost 2-3x more. Today we FT audio AND video for free (on WiFi) and think nothing of it. At least we have that going for us.

@found_objects This is your TDS flaring up. You have to pretend everyone else is dumb or else the veil of cognitive dissonance you've created with reality will fall. Then you'll have to contend with the reality that Trump sucks and that you're an asshole for supporting him

Actor Vince Vaughn calls out late-night comedians, says people like Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and others have all become the “SAME SHOW.” “It stopped being funny, and it started feeling like I was in a f*cking class I didn’t want to take.” THEO VON: “A lot of the late shows have struggled.” VINCE VAUGHN: “Oh, bro.” THEO: “Because… the only person they could make fun of at a certain point was just like white redneck kind of people. And it f*cking tanked [ratings].” VINCE: “I think that the talk shows, to a large part, became really agenda-based.” “They were gonna evangelize people to what they thought… It felt like they had an agenda.” “It stopped being funny, and it started feeling like I was in a f*cking class I didn’t want to take.” “They all became the same show.” “And they all became so about their politics and who’s good and who’s bad.” “Imagine sitting next to someone like that on a f*cking plane. You’d be like, how do I get out of this f*cking seat?” THEO: “I would FART right next to them.” VINCE: “You’d fart your way out of it?” THEO: “Yeah, I would. I would for sure.”

@found_objects The only ones with TDS are Trump supporters. Everyone else just sees him as he is. Some of his less cult like supporters are starting to wake up. You have to he deranged or deluded to still support him after all this nonsense.

@Bralley_93 @alegretron @VigilantFox I'd argue that Maher doesn't have TDS. Maher has things he doesn't like about Trump, but he often (not always) tends to have cogent arguments to support his disagreement with Trump's actions. I may not agree with Maher, but debate or dislike don't cross into derangement.

As a Japanese person, I’m curious what’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Japan? 🧐 Like how people think of “nukes” when they think of America or “carpets” when they think of Iran.
