Reasoning from first principles, it’s the same idea as having a crucifix at the pulpit: the central, saving message of the gospel is the Cross of Christ. Professional liturgists and soteriologists will probably pile up on this.

@SweChurchman I’m not going to defend it. I would say try it. I was against the practice for a couple of years but the Lord (because it is all about him) won me over after I surrendered preconceptions and just basked in his presence. Ken Leech wrote, “HE is there, and the to bless”. So true.

Protestants! Give me your best argument against Benediction and Adoration (outside of the service) of the Eucharist. Romans and Anglo-Catholics, feel free to defend the practice below as well. I’m really struggling with this issue right now.

I have to say that I find it totally baffling. There are whole swathes of the Church of England that simply pay no attention to our entire official system of worship/liturgy/sacraments and just do whatever they like. Why is this allowed? Why do the rules simply not apply to them?

I sort of knew this, but the other day I was told that at a large & v evangelical church in Cambridge, they don't recognise the liturgical year/mark feast/fast days, celebrate the eucharist, observe the daily offices etc. But these things are legally required by the canons...?
