As an Iranian watching this rescue mission unfold, I was praying the American pilot would make it out alive, not just for him, but so the Islamic Republic could not use him as a bargaining chip or claim some twisted “victory.” At the same time, I felt a deep envy. Your government sent elite special forces, million-dollar aircraft, and moved heaven and earth to bring one American home. No hesitation. No excuses. In Iran, the regime uses human shields and recruited child soldiers to clear minefields during the Iran-Iraq war. They treat their own people like disposable tools. They are now recruiting child soldiers as we speak. The Islamic Republic has zero regard for human life. That’s the brutal difference. One side risks everything to save their own. The other sacrifices their own to stay in power. This hits hard when you have lived under both realities.

Here is my proposal. Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping. President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Secretary Hegseth resign. All US bases in the Middle East close forever. Iran agrees to abandon regional proxies. The US stops arms shipments to Israel. Iran agrees to not pursue nuclear weapons and allow verification. What do you say?

It’s day 33 of the war, and my hometown is still being heavily bombed. Iranians are only now, with great difficulty, realizing that for all these years, they have essentially been living inside a massive military base the size of a country. They’re finally understanding why Iran, despite all its resources, has remained so poor: because all the money has been spent preparing the regime for its apocalyptic final war. None of this is defensive. It’s all offensive. After every strike, Israel posts reports in Persian explaining exactly what it has hit. The main reason for cutting off the internet is so that people won’t see or understand what’s really happening. There is nothing preemptive or preventative about bombing a country that had zero plans to attack you. The Americans and Israelis just started a criminal war of aggression. Iran has a legal right to respond. This is all completely unnecessary and could snowball into an inferno across a region already reeling from endless war and destruction. Our leaders are criminal lunatics.

I 💯 understand why the dominant argument in the U.S. against a war on Iran centers on how it could harm US assets, interests and whether goals are even achievable. But it’s still wild to me that the blatant criminality of a war and the damage it would do to the lives of 90 million Iranians, not to mention the 100s of millions across the region, does not register at all. That’s how dehumanized we are, the impact on our lives in this area of the world isn’t worthy of even a tiny consideration. This deep-seated genocidal barbarism across the U.S. ruling class political spectrum is terrifying when you consider its capacity for destruction.
