A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Louisiana indicted 48-year-old New Orleans criminal defense attorney Tanzanika Ruffin on March 13, 2026, on one count of wire fraud. Prosecutors allege Ruffin defrauded a client’s family out of approximately $250,000 by falsely claiming the funds were needed for a settlement with the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office. The indictment states she made multiple misrepresentations to secure the payments, which were then allegedly spent on personal expenses. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the charges Friday, noting Ruffin has been ordered to surrender any property connected to the alleged fraud. The case remains ongoing in federal court.
