@free_serrano @GarrettGreeneTX @FreeRodneyReed Furthermore, Rodney isn't just guilty, he's stupid. He already sued to DNA test other items, and the State agreed. But because he's guilty, the State was able to find his DNA on even more items.

The first court hearing I ever participated in was the actual innocence evidentiary hearing for Rodney Reed. My colleagues and I in the TX AG criminal appeals division spent 2 weeks in Bastrop, Texas essentially conducting a re-trial in front of the state habeas judge. This included putting Jimmy Fennell on the stand along with various forensic pathology and DNA experts. It also included calling some of Reed’s additional female victims who testified at the original trial’s punishment phase—where they had to re-live severe trauma decades later. I also got to know Stacey Stites’ family members, including her sisters and daughter. I saw first-hand the impact this serial death penalty litigation has on the victims’ families. There is no doubt in my mind that Rodney Reed committed this horrific murder. After dozens of rounds of state and federal court appellate review, no court has ever come to a different conclusion. Hopefully this cert denial paves the way for the finality of this case the victims deserve.

Rodney Reed's longstanding attempt to evade the death penalty is over. Justice Sotomayor, joined by Justices Kagan and Jackson, dissent from denying Mr. Reed (a brutal murderer) another trip to the Supreme Court. He last won at SCOTUS on a procedural issue in 2023.

@GarrettGreeneTX Rodney Reed is innocent; it's absurd that they refuse to analyze the DNA-covered belt used to strangle the victim. Fennell was a police officer in Texas and in 2007 he was arrested for kidnapping and sexual misconduct with a person in his custody. Free @FreeRodneyReed

Many innocent people have been executed since 1976, Ledell Lee, Ivan Cantu, to name a few, the death penalty is useless, it does not generate an "anti-crime effect", it is more expensive than life imprisonment. @RDunhamDP @DPInfoCtr
Edward Feser@FeserEdward

Good article in which facts and logic triumph over emotion. What the empirical evidence shows is that “there have been no proven wrongful executions in the ‘modern’ era of capital punishment – the period since the Supreme Court instituted reforms in 1976” thefp.com/p/why-i-change…

Nelson Serrano lawyer, Roy Black, has died. He took on the case as part of post-conviction efforts to challenge Serrano’s death sentence, focusing on alleged constitutional violations, suppression of evidence, and the need for new DNA testing.
